What is the “roster fee” that is paid to the diocese by each sports team?
The diocesan athletic participation fee (also known as the roster fee) is a cost charged to each school / parish based on the number of participants that each school / parish has listed on each of their official diocesan athletic rosters. These monies collected are used to support the diocesan athletic programs.
This funding process was initiated by the Diocese of Erie in 2002 as a way to support the many administrative tasks which are necessary for efficient and effective athletic programs. The fee is adjusted as needed on an annual basis (in January) by the diocesan finance office. Because these fees do not typically cover all expenses of the diocesan athletic programs, the Athletics Office receives a modest subsidy from the annual diocesan budget.
