Lay Ministry Training

The Ministry Training Program of the Diocese of Erie consists of three levels and is open to anyone who does volunteer ministry in their parish or those just seeking adult education experiences.

Level I - CORE consists of eight weeks of basic theology. Each of the eight sessions lasts two hours. Material is provided so that participants may share in the prayer and discussion, as they attempt to integrate and apply what they learn to their own lives. The teaching in CORE is done through the use of videos.

Level II - ENRICHMENT consists of eight theology courses. Depending on the ministry that a person is involved in will determine which of the ENRICHMENT courses they are required to take. A list of the ministries and the required courses is available upon request. ENRICHMENT courses are taught by a qualified theology teacher and each course runs for three two-hour sessions.

Level III - PASTORAL SKILLS is developed as the more practical courses and training geared to a particular ministry. The requirements for PASTORAL SKILLS  vary just as the individual ministries do. Falling in this category would be Methods in Religious Education, Pre-Cana Team Training, Small Community Leaders Training, etc.
