Bishop Persico to celebrate Mass on Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe
On the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Dec. 12, Bishop Lawrence Persico will celebrate Mass at 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish, W. 26th and Liberty streets, Erie. The Mass is a joint effort of Sacred Heart and St. Stephen of Hungary parishes, Erie, and will be followed by a light reception featuring both Hispanic and American food. All are welcome. Our Lady of Guadalupe is patroness of the Americas, and especially connects us with the people of the Archdiocese of Yucatán in Mexico, home of our Mission of Friendship.

Clergy are encouraged to promote Engagement Encounter
Marriage preparation is a requirement and a blessing for marriage in the Diocese of Erie. Engagement Encounter offers engaged couples quality time to spend in discussion and reflection on their future lives together. Clergy are asked to promote the next Engagement Encounter, which is offered Jan. 26-28, 2018, at St. Mark Catholic Center, 429 East Grandview Blvd., Erie. Save the date for the Diocesan Study Week
Mark your calendars for the annual Diocesan Study Week, Jan. 8-11, at St. Mark Catholic Center, 429 E. Grandview Blvd., Erie. The presenter will be Father Paul Turner, rector of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Kansas City, Mo., and director of the Office of Divine Worship for the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph. He is an accomplished writer and presenter on the Catholic liturgy. More information and registration details will be available soon.

Pastors, parish office staff asked to save the date for formation day
The Chancery of the Diocese of Erie will host a parish office staff formation day on March 15, 2018, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at St. Mark Catholic Center, 429 E. Grandview Blvd., Erie. The day will give office staff an opportunity to get to know some diocesan offices, and to reflect on the importance of their role in the parish. Saint Vincent College to hold summer program
Saint Vincent College in Latrobe will host its eighth annual Faith and Reason Summer Program, an intensive, one-week introduction to the Catholic liberal arts tradition. The program will be held June 10-15, 2018, and will be directed by Dr. Michael P. Krom, professor and chair of the Philosophy Department. Each day is structured around the Saint Vincent monastic schedule of prayer and Mass. During the class sessions, students analyze and discuss selected readings in a seminar setting. There also is time for recreational activities, movies and excursions to attractions in the Laurel Highlands and Pittsburgh areas. Housing in a college residence hall and three daily meals in the college dining hall are included in the cost ($495). Limited scholarship funding is available. Three notes from the Diocese of Erie ‘Good For You’ wellness initiative

  • There are only 28 days left for full-time employees covered by the Diocese of Erie health insurance to earn a $100 reward for completing the wellness initiative.  This initiative runs until Dec. 31. Learn how to earn your $100 reward at http://ErieRCD.org/pdf/wellness/handout.pdf. There are three simple steps: 1) Complete the online wellness profile; 2) Get a wellness exam and enter the date into your Highmark account; 3) Set any goal with a health coach by calling Blues on Call on the back of your member ID card or set a goal with WebMD Digital Health Assistant. Enjoy two Christmas concerts at Mercyhurst Prep
Two Christmas concerts will be held at Mercyhurst Prep, 538 E. Grandview Blvd., Erie. The MPS Dance Concert will be held Dec. 15 at 7 p.m., and the MPS Christmas Music Concert will be held Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. Both are free and open to the public.

Candle-lit Advent event scheduled at St. George
All are welcome to attend a candle-lit Advent event at St. George Church, 5145 Peach St., Erie, on Dec. 19 at 7 p.m. Confession begins at 6:30 p.m. The evening features lay witness, seasonal worship music, a Gospel proclamation and Eucharistic Adoration. A fellowship will follow.


Hymnal book covers available free
Church of the Beloved Disciple in Grove City has burgundy vinyl book covers that are available at no cost. There are about 400 or more book covers that we have used in the church that will hold a Breaking Bread book. They are approximately 6¾-by-9½ inches. Position opening for executive director of Faith Formation
The Diocese of Erie is seeking a creative and faith-driven leader to serve as the executive director of Faith Formation. The fruit of a collaborative diocesan planning process, this position has been identified as key to the renewal of parish life, religious education, youth ministry and family ministry. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to evangelization and lifelong faith formation, be visionary and forward-looking, relate well to lay, clergy and religious alike, and be willing to provide inspirational leadership through involvement in the day-to-day responsibilities of the office. He/she will play a key role in the ongoing development of a collaborative vision for lifelong faith formation in the Diocese of Erie. He/she will report to the vicar for Education and supervise several full-time professional colleagues. Middle school math teacher and grade 6 math teacher needed
The Erie Catholic School System has an immediate need for a math teacher for middle school (grades 6, 7 and 8), and a math teacher for grade 6. These are full-time positions with benefits. Qualified candidates must have a bachelor’s degree, a teaching certificate for middle school math, and Pennsylvania clearances. Preference is given to practicing Catholics.
