2017 National Needs Collection
Pastors and administrators will find attached Bishop Lawrence Persico’s letter introducing the 2017 National Needs Collection. Parishes are asked to publicize this collection in a significant way the weekend of July 8-9.

Priests invited to diocesan-sponsored retreats
Priests are reminded to read the attached letter from the Office of Clergy Continuing Education and Formation regarding diocesan-sponsored retreats for 2017. Registration information and more details are provided.

Sign up for FOCCUS training
FOCCUS training is a requirement for everyone who facilitates marriage preparation in the Diocese of Erie. The next training session will be offered by Father Richard Allen, a certified FOCCUS facilitator trainer, on Aug. 21 from 10 a.m.to 4 p.m. at St. Mark Catholic Center, Erie. Lunch will be provided. New deacons, other clergy, or laity interested in FOCCUS training are encouraged to sign up by Aug. 1 by calling the Family Life Office at 814-824-1265. St. Joseph Parish to host Fourth of July celebration
St. Joseph Parish in Lucinda is hosting its 78th annual Fourth of July celebration on the parish grounds, 112 Rectory Lane, on July 4 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The pre-festival kick-off will include a 5K run/walk, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Lucinda train station, 1040 Lander Drive, Lucinda.

More than $40,000 in cash and prizes will be distributed, including 15 handmade quilts, an Amazon Echo and a $5,000 grand prize. Chicken and ham dinners will be served, and there will be games of chance, live entertainment and bingo. The event will be held rain or shine. Dinners will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.; take-outs will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $9 for adults, $4.50 for children ages 6 to 12, and free for children under 6. Divine Mercy Retreat Program offers two opportunities
The Divine Mercy Retreat Program is offering retreats July 7-9 at St. Joseph Church in Erie, and Aug. 11-13 at Elk County Catholic in St. Marys. Save the date for the Father Peterson Golf Tournament
The annual Father Peterson Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 16, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Union City Country Club. The event is named after the late Msgr. James Peterson, a diocesan priest who founded Maria House Project in the Diocese of Erie in 1971. Today, this ministry includes four residential houses and the Leopold Center. Religious education director needed at Erie parish
St. Luke Parish in Erie is seeking a religious education director, effective immediately. The position is part-time, with duties that include coordinating the Sunday morning religious education program (K-10) and sacramental preparation. Faith formation coordinator needed at McKean parish
St. Francis Xavier Parish in McKean is hiring a person for the position of faith formation coordinator. The position is full-time (40 hours per week) and requires a reliable and responsible person who possesses good communication and organizational skills, as well as a working knowledge of the tenets of the Roman Catholic faith and of good teaching methods. Computer skills are important and people skills are a must. The successful applicant is expected to work with Microsoft Office and Parish Data Systems.
