24 Hours for the Lord flier and bulletin insert
Pastors and administrators will find attached a flier and bulletin insert for the upcoming 24 Hours for the Lord to be held at St. Peter Cathedral March 17-18. Please consider advertising this event as appropriate in your parishes and schools. As a reminder, priests are still needed for confession on Saturday, March 18, in the early morning hours through the close of the event at 3:30 p.m. To sign up or if you have any questions, contact Sister Kathleen Dietz, FSO, at or 814-824-1135.

Pastors to receive information on Newman Connection
Pastors can expect to receive a Newman Connection packet that includes an endorsement letter from the Diocese of Erie written by Father Nicholas Rouch, vicar for education. Newman Connection has built a referral system to connect graduating high school seniors to the campus minister at the college/university they will be attending in the fall. Pastors are asked to assist this important endeavor by submitting names of 2017 high school graduates and where they are going to college. Please follow the simple instructions included in the packet.

Free stewardship webinar offered March 14
Parish leaders, parish administrative staff, diocesan employees and others are invited to view—at no cost—a March 14 webinar, “Stewardship Leadership: Key Steps.” The Office of Stewardship and Annual Giving is underwriting the cost of this webinar. To register, go to the link in the attached document, enter your name, email address and parish information, and state that you are from the Diocese of Erie. For questions, contact Bill Grant, director of the Office of Stewardship and Annual Giving, at 814-824-1192.

2017 Catholic Services Appeal
The Promotion Weekend for the Catholic Services Appeal is March 11-12. Parishes are encouraged to show Bishop Lawrence Persico’s 2017 CSA video message in church that weekend. The video can be found at Commitment Weekend for the appeal is March 18-19. For additional pledge envelopes or any other assistance, contact Bill Grant or Amanda Phanco in the Office of Stewardship and Annual Giving at 814-824-1192. The first CSA payment reminders will be mailed in April. However, if pastors/administrators want their parishioners to receive a March payment reminder, please call Amanda Phanco at 814-824-1194 by March 15.

USCCB releases Life Issues Forum
Life Issues Forum, a bi-weekly column of the Pro-Life Secretariat of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, is attached.

Lenten liturgical aid is available
Attached is A Liturgy Preparation Aid for Lent, the Sacred Paschal Triduum and the Easter Season from the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions (FDLC.) It contains:

  • A Lenten message from Pope Francis
  • A complete presider’s text for the Rite of Reconciliation of Several Penitents with Individual Confession and Absolution with readings, sample penances and musical suggestions
  • Frequently asked questions and answers
  • A liturgical calendar advisory for Lent, the Triduum and the Easter season
  • Lectionary for Mass–Year A (citations for the Sundays and solemnities)
  • Preparation worksheets for the sacred Paschal Triduum
  • Evening prayer for Easter Sunday

St. Peter Cathedral to host concert series
St. Peter Cathedral, W. 10th and Sassafras streets, Erie, is continuing its concert series with a choral concert March 19 at 4 p.m. The Symphonic Singers will perform, with Jean Verdecchia as director and conductor, and Jenny Davis as accompanist. The program is free and open to the public.
