Ascension Thursday is May 25
In the Diocese of Erie, the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord will be celebrated as a holy day of obligation on Thursday, May 25. No Sunday celebrations of Ascension are permitted in our diocese at this time. While much of the United States now celebrates Ascension on Sunday, the ecclesiastical provinces of Boston, Hartford, New York, Newark, Philadelphia, and Omaha continue to celebrate the Ascension of Our Lord on its traditional day, Thursday. Invitation to the 2017 presbyteral ordination
Everyone is invited to read the attached invitation from Bishop Lawrence Persico for the ordination to the priesthood of three of our transitional deacons on Friday, June 9, at 7 p.m. at St. Peter Cathedral in downtown Erie.

Fatima information flier available
In recognition of the 100th anniversary of the Blessed Mother’s appearance in Fatima, Portugal, many events are scheduled in the Diocese of Erie. Parishes and individuals are encouraged to read and/or distribute the attached informational flier.

Parishes, schools, agencies advised to renew antivirus protection
Parishes, schools and agencies in the Diocese of Erie are advised that it is time to renew the Symantec Endpoint Protection antivirus protection. Renewal authorization forms will arrive shortly. If your parishes or agency needs additional or new antivirus protection licenses, contact Kathy Papalia at or at 814-824-1184. In the first year of use, Symantec Endpoint Protection is available for $14 per computer. After that, renewals are $8 per computer per year. Endpoint Protection protects your computer from virus and spyware attacks. Endpoint Protection is only available for purchase in June of each year. The deadline for ordering is June 1, 2017. Symantec Endpoint Protection is available for Windows 7, 8, 8.1 and 10. No one should have Windows Vista or Windows XP computers in use; they are vulnerable to attack.

Highmark offers event to diocesan employees in Erie
Highmark is offering a free wellness workshop to diocesan employees May 22 from noon to 1 p.m. at St. Mark Catholic Center in Erie. If you can attend, bring your lunch. You do not need to participate in the diocesan health plan to attend. The topic is “Everyday Habits and the Prevention of Cancer.”

Our Lady of Mercy rummage sale scheduled in June
The Our Lady of Mercy rummage sale is set for June 2-3 in the gym at Our Lady of Mercy, 837 Bartlett Road, Harborcreek. Consider donating items to the sale by dropping off items to the gymanisium between May 27 and June 1. Items NOT accepted include furniture, large appliances, food items, televisions and computers. St. Boniface School to hold reunion weekend
St. Boniface School in Erie is hosting its 160th Alumni Reunion Weekend June 3-4. Everyone is invited to attend the 5 p.m. alumni Mass on June 3 at the church, 9367 Wattsburg Road, Erie, and the alumni adult dance in the parish center. The cost is $10 per person and includes subs, refreshments, music and dancing. A Mass also will be celebrated June 4 at 10:30 a.m. Bring a dish for a tureen dinner for your entire family. Turkey dinner planned at St. Charles Church
St. Charles Parish in New Bethlehem will host a turkey dinner on June 4 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the social hall next to the church, 201 Washington St. The cost is $9 for adults, $5 for children 5 and older, and free to children under 5. Our Lady of Mount Carmel to celebrate final school event
Celebrate 55 years of Catholic education at a final school event at Our Lady of Mount Carmel School, 1531 E. Grandview Blvd., Erie, on June 8 from 6 to 10 p.m. Food will be available at reasonable prices; bring chairs and blankets. Enjoy a DJ, a bouncy house, a 50/50 raffle and fireworks. From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the gym, there will be a silent auction on sports banners. Sport uniforms and trophies also will be on sale (cash or checks only).

Youth invited to Steubenville summer conference
Franciscan University at Steubenville is hosting “Elevate!”—a summer high school youth conference July 14-16 on Steubenville’s main campus. Spots are still available to teens who will be in high school as of this fall. Travel to the event is being coordinated by Disciples Life in St. Marys, and Our Lady of Peace Parish in Erie. The deadline to register is July 1.
