The Diocese of Erie Information Bulletin advertises and promotes activities and events sponsored by diocesan organizations such as parishes, schools, religious communities and groups.



Vicariate Masses scheduled to celebrate cathedral anniversary
St. Peter Cathedral Parish, the mother church of the Diocese of Erie, will celebrate its 125th anniversary in the coming year with three Masses celebrated by Bishop Lawrence Persico for the three vicariates in the diocese. The first Mass—on Dec. 3 at 11 a.m.—welcomes anyone from the Western Vicariate. Those attending will enjoy a social and a tour of the church afterward. Other upcoming Masses will be for the Northern Vicariate on Feb. 11, 2018, at 11 a.m., and for the Eastern Vicariate on April 15, 2018, at 11 a.m.

Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception

Answer the Call Advent concert
Seventy-five singers and musicians from more than a dozen parishes in the Erie area will present the Answer the Call concert Dec. 3 at 2 p.m. at Cathedral Prep’s H. David Bowes Auditorium, W. 10th and Myrtle streets, Erie. In the tradition of Lessons and Carols, the presentation bridges the time between Advent and Christmas through Scripture readings and music composed by Michael Malthaner, music director at Sacred Heart Parish in Erie. Several retired priests and women religious will be featured as readers. The concert is free and open to the public. Following the performance, a free-will offering will be collected to benefit retired priest and religious funds.

Follow the Star concert
Blessed Sacrament Parish, 1626 W. 26th St., Erie, will host the popular Tennessee Backporch “Follow the Star” concert on Dec. 3 at 3 p.m. This is a fun, spiritual and musical experience for the Advent and Christmas seasons. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for students, and are available at the parish office or at the door. For more information, call the parish office at 814-454-0171.

St. Leo Magnus to host fish fry in December
St. Leo Parish, 111 Depot St., Ridgway, will host a fish fry Dec. 8 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., or until sold out. The cost is $10 per person; take-outs are available by calling 814-772-4705 after 3 p.m. and picking up after 4 p.m. St. Leo’s has a fish fry every second Friday of the month, except for June, July and August.

Disabilities Office prepares for Christmas
The Diocese of Erie’s Office for People with Disabilities invites people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families to attend an afternoon of Christmas preparation and fellowship Dec. 9 from 1 to 4 p.m. at St. Mark Catholic Center, 429 E. Christmas Vendor Blender event slated in Sharpsville
St. Bartholomew Parish in Sharpsville will feature more than 40 crafters and vendors with cash-and-carry items for your holiday shopping at its Christmas Vendor Blender event Dec. 17 from 3 to 7 p.m. Admission is free, but those attending are encouraged to donate cash or non-perishable food items for the Sharpsville Community Food Pantry. The event will be held in the St. Bartholomew Social Center, 321 W. Ridge Ave., Sharpsville.


Full-time position open for development officer
The Catholic Foundation of the Diocese of Erie is seeking an experienced fundraising professional to work with major donors. This position will work in a team setting to connect donors and prospective donors with opportunities to financially support Catholic ministries. 

Required qualifications include:

  • 5+ years of experience directly related to fundraising/major gifts
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Excellent computer skills
