Comments invited in preparation for synod on the family
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has forwarded a questionnaire to Bishop Lawrence Persico in preparation for the Synod of Bishops in October 2014. The topic of that synod is “The Pastoral Challenges to the Family in the Context of Evangelization.”

Bishop Persico is working to respond with the help of appropriate diocesan personnel. Many of the questions require statistics or fairly technical answers. Several questions, however, lend themselves to broader input. To that end, the bishop is inviting the faithful of the Diocese of Erie to weigh in on several key questions.

Those who would like to offer their thoughts can access the modified questionnaire at from Wednesday, Nov. 27, at noon through Monday, Dec. 16, at noon. The goal is to provide Bishop Persico with insight into the understanding and experience of Catholics across our diocese. A single report will then be forwarded to the USCCB before the Dec. 31 deadline. The USCCB will then forward a report from the United States to the Vatican in January 2014.

Anonymous submissions cannot be accepted. However, individual submissions, and the final report sent from diocesan bishops to their national conferences, will be confidential.

Reminder: special collection for the Philippines Nov. 30-Dec. 1
Bishop Lawrence Persico has approved a second collection for the Philippines to be held in all parishes of the Diocese of Erie this weekend, Nov. 30-Dec. 1.

Parishioners who are writing personal checks should make them out to their parishes, which will then send a single check to the diocesan Finance Office. The diocese will forward all funds to the appropriate agency handling recovery efforts in the Philippines.
