Pastoral Planning: Faith Formation update released
An update from the Faith Formation Implementation Team can be found in today’s attachments. Preliminary recommendations were unveiled earlier this year, and feedback has been submitted, reviewed and incorporated. The attached document includes a short letter from Bishop Lawrence Persico, who calls this aspect of pastoral planning both “the most important” and “the most challenging.” Pastors are invited to include the update as an insert in their parish bulletins.

Planning confirmation liturgies for 2018
Due to the restructuring of parishes in 2017, the process for scheduling confirmations has been changed. Eastern Vicariate confirmations already have been scheduled through Msgr. Richard Siefer. The Chancery and the Office of Worship ask pastors and religious education leaders of the Northern and Western Vicariates to carefully read the confirmation attachment (which includes multiple documents) and work with their dean to reach a consensus on proposed dates as soon as possible. Once all parishes are accounted for, the confirmation schedule for 2018 will be finalized and published on the Office of Worship website. Thank you for your support during this process.

Download Sunday resources for myParish App in the mail
With the Nov. 18-19 Download Sunday weekend approaching, Diocesan Publications, the company that produces myParish App, has sent an email to all pastors in the Diocese of Erie, confirming that a kit is in the mail to help introduce this new, cost-free resource. Many pastors have been working with Diocesan Publications to customize their app. Even for those who have not done any customization, Diocesan Publications has created a basic app for each parish.

Parishes already using an app from another company are encouraged to let the Communications Office know, so that arrangements for a connection to the diocese can be explored. Please be assured parishes can join myParish App and customize it at any time in the future. The kit will provide details on how to get started with this very simple tool. For questions, please contact Anne-Marie Welsh in the Communications Office at 814-824-1167 or at amwelsh@ErieRCD.org.

New portraits of Bishop Persico available
Attached please find a flier featuring some of the new portraits of Bishop Lawrence Persico that were taken on the occasion of his fifth anniversary as our bishop. They are available to download, free of charge, at http://www.ErieRCD.org/coa.htm. The flier provides details from the Communications Office for those interested in ordering hard copies for delivery by mail.

Bishop’s Breakfast collection for Christmas
Celebrate the "Season of Giving" by providing gently used or new items for distribution at the annual Christmas gathering of the Bishop’s Breakfast. Donations will be accepted through Dec. 5 and may include blankets, hats, socks, gloves and clothing for adult men and women. Other needed items are men’s boxer shorts (all sizes) and $5 gift cards to McDonald’s or Tim Horton’s. To contribute, contact Jennie Hagerty at jhagerty94@gmail.com or Mary Therese Riley at mtriley1@verizon.net. The Bishop’s Breakfast provides thousands of warm meals to those in need throughout the year.

Free resources for evangelization
With the conclusion of the Take Me to Worship campaign for 2017, the Family Life Office of the Diocese of Erie has gained access to free resources for parish use. “How to Invite and Welcome in God’s Name: Parish Leader Kit” is available free to all parishes at http://products.pastoral.center/wh/wh101/1/download-bw2t/index.html. The Pastoral Center of Alameda, Calif., invites parish staff to save and use any of the documents that may be helpful in evangelization efforts, but asks that these documents not be posted on websites. For other evangelization resources, go to The Pastoral Center at www.pastoralcenter.com.
