2017 Catholic Campaign for Human Development
Pastors and administrators will find attached Bishop Lawrence Persico’s letter introducing the 2017 collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. Parishes are asked to publicize this collection in a significant way on the weekend of Nov. 11-12.

Mission Office suggests parish bulletin announcement
The Mission Office of the Diocese of Erie suggests that the following announcement be placed in parish bulletins:

  Thank you for your generous support on World Mission Sunday, Oct. 22. While only some are called to go to the missions to serve, all of us are called, by our baptism, to support the church’s missionary work by our prayers and financial help. Free stewardship webinar available
Parish and diocesan leaders and other interested persons are welcome to view at no cost a Nov. 14 webinar, “Spirituality of Giving.” The presenter is David Baranowski, director of stewardship education with the Archdiocese of St. Louis. The Erie Diocesan Office of Stewardship and Annual Giving is underwriting the cost of this webinar. To learn more and to register, see the attached document. Mission art contest announced
The Mission Office of the Diocese of Erie is happy to announce a Christmas art contest sponsored by the Missionary Childhood Association of the Pontifical Mission Societies. See the attached form for complete details and how to submit entries. Twenty-four winners will be selected in this competition. Winning artwork will be displayed at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., during Advent and Christmas 2018.Two grand prize winners will be selected and their artwork reproduced as the official Christmas cards of the national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in the United States. Free websites available to all parishes
The Diocese of Erie is offering a free website to every parish, if requested. If your parish hasn’t already signed up for a new website, there is still time to do so. There is no deadline to take advantage of this resource. A parish can choose to move to the diocesan-linked system at any time. Visit http://www.ErieRCD.org/dioerieparishplace.htm to view a 10-minute walk-through of the Diocese of Erie’s Parish Place software. (You will need speakers or headphones to hear the audio.)     Full-time employees covered by the Diocese of Erie’s health insurance program are reminded that the wellness initiative runs through Dec. 31, 2017. Learn how to earn your $100 reward at http://ErieRCD.org/pdf/wellness/handout.pdf. There are three simple steps: 1) Complete the online wellness profile; 2) Get a wellness exam and enter the date into your Highmark account; 3) Set any goal with a health coach (call Blues on Call on the back of your member ID card OR set a goal with WebMD Digital Health Assistant). DuBois Central Catholic preparing for gala
DuBois Central Catholic has finalized plans for its annual Grand Gala Nov. 4 at Luigi’s Villa in DuBois. The evening includes dinner, dancing and both silent and live auctions. There will be a grand prize raffle of $2,500 in cash. Gala tickets are $55 for adults, or $400 for a reserved table of eight. Cocktail attire and cash bar. Chances for the raffle are $25 each and can be purchased at the high school office or by calling 814-371-3060. For additional information, email the committee at svarischetti@duboiscatholic.com. All proceeds are earmarked for the DuBois Central Catholic Fund.

Pork and sauerkraut served in Crates
St. Nicholas Church, 3028 Shannondale St., Mayport, will hold its annual pork and sauerkraut dinner Nov. 5 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The cost is $9 for adults, $4 for children, and free to those 5 and under. Featured at the dinner will be a quilt raffle and a country store.

Our Lady of Mount Carmel’s Feather Party
The 57th annual Our Lady of Mount Carmel Feather Party will be held Nov. 18 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Scheffner Hall, 1531 East Grandview Blvd., Erie. Admission to the event is free. There will be small games of chance, cash prizes, free refreshments, a wine and craft beer booth, fruit basket raffles, and the opportunity to win a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Evening of prayer, music in Falls Creek

Director needed for Office for Social Justice and Life
The director for the Office for Social Justice and Life, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Erie, is a full-time (37.5 hours per week) professional position that embraces and participates in the principles of Catholic social teaching as it relates to individuals, parishes and the larger community while promoting human dignity, respect for life, advocacy and educational awareness of local, national and international social justice issues.

A master’s degree in pastoral or organizational leadership (or related field), is preferred, however, bachelor-level credentials will be considered for candidates within a related discipline. All candidates must present evidence of a minimum of three years of experience in the field of Catholic social teaching.

Other required qualifications include:

  • A commitment to the mission of the Catholic Church and Catholic Charities
  • Excellent leadership skills, with knowledge of public policy-making and the legislative process

  • Experience with direct-service to the poor or disenfranchised
