Vicariate (Regional) Offices for the Religious Education Department:
Associate Directors of Religious Education in the Vicariate Offices collaborate in developing and accomplishing the goals and objectives of the Religious Education Department by:

  • Actively promoting certification of religious education leaders and catechists through presentation of Lay Ministry Training courses in the Diocese of Erie.
  • Assisting parishes in recruitment, placement, contracting and orientation of religious education leaders in the vicariates.  Assisting religious education leaders in the development and presentation of adult religious education programs especially Sacramental parent meetings.
  • Facilitating communication among religious education leaders.
  • Meeting with parish religious education leaders to provide support and assistance for parish programs.
  • Sponsoring deanery/vicariate meetings with religious education leaders for prayer, mutual support and sharing, and program planning.
  • Supporting parish programs by maintaining current resources.
  • Promoting ongoing professional and personal enrichment for religious education leaders by assisting with Continuing Education and Spiritual Formation Days, an annual Retreat for leaders and the Diocesan Study Week.
  • Assisting in the on-going refinement and updating of the Religious Education Handbook and working with parish leaders to facilitate its implementation.
  • Working collaboratively within the Diocese of Erie Department of Religious Education to promote RCIA, Small Christian Communities and Youth Ministry.
  • Attending regional and national meetings in order to keep abreast of current trends and materials in the area of religious education.
