The Diocese of Erie Information Bulletin advertises and promotes activities and events sponsored by diocesan organizations such as parishes, schools, religious communities and groups.



2018 Good Shepherd Collection for Retired Priests
Pastors and administrators will find attached Bishop Lawrence Persico’s letter introducing the 2018 Good Shepherd Collection for Retired Priests. Parishes are asked to publicize this collection in a significant way on the weekend of April 14-15.

Newman Connection
Pastors can expect to receive a packet from Newman Connection, which includes an endorsement letter from the diocese written by Father Nicholas Rouch, vicar for education. Newman Connection has built a referral system to connect graduating high school seniors to the campus minister at the college/university they will attend in the fall. Pastors are asked to assist with this important connection by submitting names of 2018 high school graduates and where they will be enrolled in college. Please follow the simple instructions included in the packet.

Inter-Church Ministries to sponsor King event
A community forum co-sponsored by Inter-Church Ministries of Erie County will be held on the 50th anniversary of the death of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. April 4 from 5:15 to 7:15 p.m. at the H.O. Hirt Auditorium at the Erie County Blasco Library, 160 East Front St., Erie. The theme of the event is “In Search of the ‘Beloved Community’–A Prophet’s Call.” The evening will include film highlights of Dr. King’s life, a panel discussion, readings and a dramatization of his work. The evening is free and open to the public.

Save the date for an Easter celebration concert with David Kauffman
David Kauffman, an award-winning national composer of liturgical and inspirational music for the Christian journey, returns to the Diocese of Erie for a concert April 20 at 7 p.m. at Notre Dame Church, 2325 Highland Road, Hermitage. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students, and will be available at the door. For more information, contact Gretchen Wagner at 724-981-5566, ext. 105.

Prayer and journal writing workshop with David Kauffman
Develop or continue to grow the spiritual practice of journal writing at a workshop featuring David Kauffman, a nationally known composer of inspirational music. Using lectio divina, reading and reflecting on the divine Word, Kaufman will lead the process April 21 from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the multi-purpose room at Notre Dame Church, 2325 Highland Road, Hermitage. Knights to hold craft show
The Knights of Columbus Council #11313 of St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Erie is holding its spring craft show April 21 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at St. Jude School and Parish Center, 2801 W. Sixth St., Erie. The cost is $3 for adults; $2 for seniors.

St. Pio relics to be on display in Buffalo Diocese
The Diocese of Buffalo will host the relics of St. Padre Pio as they make a North American tour. The first- and second-class relics will be on display for public veneration April 21 from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. at St. Gabriel Parish, 5271 Clinton St., Elma, N.Y. Bishop Richard J. Malone will celebrate a Mass at 8 a.m. in honor of the stigmatist and mystic. For more information on the one-day event, visit: http://stgabeschurch.com. Coffee and sandwiches will be available at the parish center. Visitors will have the opportunity to receive the sacrament of reconciliation.
