2018 International Needs Collection
Pastors and administrators will find attached Bishop Lawrence Persico’s letter introducing the 2018 International Needs Collection. Parishes are asked to publicize this collection in a significant way on the weekend of May 12-13.
Diocese makes available prayer resources for those suffering from addiction
The prayer resources for parishes developed by the Office of Worship and unveiled at an in-service for priests in March are now available for downloading at https://www.eriercd.org/opioid.html. The site also contains links to a county-by-county listing of information about opioids, including regional resources, a document outlining next steps for pastors, and prayer resources for individuals.
Parish festival ads
The Office of Communications of the Diocese of Erie is offering special festival advertising space now in FaithLife newspaper. A parish festival events listing will be published in the June 10 edition of FaithLife. This listing costs $35 and must be reserved by May 18.
Faith magazine’s August issue also will feature festival ads. An eighth-page advertisement in the magazine is $250, while quarter-page advertisements are $450. Call 814-824-1161 for dimensions and other details. The deadline to reserve space in Faith magazine is May 18. Submit your own ad or one can be designed for you.

International Needs Collection
Estate planning seminar at St. Peter Cathedral
St. Peter Cathedral Parish in downtown Erie is sponsoring an estate planning seminar May 8 at 6:30 p.m. at the cathedral’s Synod Hall. The seminar—“Your Legacy/Your Plan...What Is It?”—will include such topics as will planning, power of attorney, healthcare directives, guardianships for children, innovative estate planning opportunities and funeral planning. Speakers will include Father Michael Ferrick, rector of St. Peter Cathedral; attorney Thomas Hoffman; CPA Joseph Kloecker; and Austin Brugger, a local funeral home director. Summer Discipleship Camp offered to teenagers
The Diocese of Erie’s Summer Discipleship Camp (Camp Totus Tuus) will be held July 15-18 at St. Philip Church in Linesville. The camp is for middle school students who want to strengthen their relationship with Jesus and spend time with other Catholic Christians. Camp begins with a family Mass at 1 p.m. on July 15, and ends with a family picnic at 6 p.m. on July 18. The cost is $175 per person; financial aid is sometimes offered by a parish or school. The cost includes all snacks and meals, overnight accommodations, a T-shirt, binder and materials for the week. Director of Human Resources
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie is seeking a director of Human Resources to oversee all aspects of human resource practices and processes and to serve as a contracted consultant to parishes and agencies of the Diocese of Erie.
This position requires the coordination of all facets of employee management. Primary duties include overall leadership and guidance of human resource operations, including talent acquisition, career development, retention, training, leadership development, employee relations, conflict resolution, compensation and benefits, and compliance with all local, state and federal employment laws.
The director of Human Resources also assists the Office of Child Protection and Youth to ensure that screening and approval processes comply with diocesan standards.
This position meets the criteria for an administrative exemption under the provisions of the federal and state wage and hour laws and reports directly to the vicar general of the diocese.
