Diocese of Erie changes mileage reimbursement rate
The mileage reimbursement rate in the Diocese of Erie has changed for 2019. Effective as of Jan. 1, 2019, the mileage rate will increase from 54.5 cents per mile to 58 cents per mile for all ministry-related mileage. This is based on the new IRS allowable rate. Schools and parishes are advised to make note of the change for any future reimbursement requests.
Use caution when sharing personal information
Individuals in Erie recently received an email from a scam artist claiming to be a member of the clergy. The text of the email stated: “I need you to perform a quick task for me. Are you available?” Replies to the email resulted in a request for financial help. Parishes are asked to include the following notice in their weekly bulletin and forward it to employees and volunteers to keep everyone safe from fraud. Here is the suggested bulletin notice:
In this age when personal data can be misused by scam artists, please be aware that the Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie, clergy and entities such as parishes and schools will never solicit your personal or business information by any method unless initiated by you. Should you receive an unsolicited request (including an email) for such information or a request for financial assistance (including the purchase of gift cards of any type), exercise extreme caution. Contact the person or entity by using official contact information only. Do not use contact information provided in the potential fraudulent request.
Litany of healing and renewal available
Attached please find a copy of the "Litany of Healing and Renewal" that was published in the special August edition of Faith magazine. Pastors are encouraged to continue using it in their parishes or to make it available to those who may want to pray it on their own. A link is also available at www.ErieRCD.org/Bishop-Persicos-statements.html.
Is your parish or school having a Lenten dinner?
It’s never too early to schedule advertising for your Lenten dinners. Faith magazine’s February 2019 edition will publish a listing of all entities providing Lenten meals. The listing also will be made available online and through social media. Remember, Ash Wednesday is March 6. To advertise parish or school Lenten dinners in the “Lenten Offerings” feature in Faith, contact Advertising Manager Brenda Williams at 814-824-1161 or 1-800-374-3723, ext. 161, or email bwilliams@ErieRCD.org. Space must be reserved by Dec. 30. Please provide the date(s), time, place and cost for the dinner and, if needed, a phone number for questions. The cost is $45 per listing. This is a great resource for those looking for meatless dinners during Lent.
