2020 special collection schedule for the Diocese of Erie
The 2020 special collection schedule for the Diocese of Erie is attached. Please use this schedule when ordering collection envelopes for your parish(es). Feel free to contact the Chancery at 814-824-1135 with any questions.

The third issue of ‘Jot’ is available now
The attached February issue of “Good Liturgy Matters-Jot” deals with liturgical music. The aim of “GLM-Jot” — a one-page, easy-to-read article released monthly from the Office of Worship — is to help parish communities reflect on their weekly liturgies over time. Consider including “Jot” in your parish bulletin or discuss it at liturgy committee and pastoral council meetings. Please send comments or questions to the Office of Worship at 814-824-1270.

Attention, pastors and music directors
The FCC has changed the rules for wireless microphones. The 600 megahertz spectrum/band has been re-allocated to commercial use only. Please contact your audio/visual supplier to determine if your equipment will still be usable. This pertains to all forms of wireless microphones, including lavalier/lapel mics. Rebates may exist to help defray the cost of replacing affected devices. While the legal deadline is July 12, 2020, commercial businesses in your community may already have started using the 600 band, which means you could start experiencing problems soon. Additionally, replacement parts for your existing equipment will become difficult to locate. Remember that after the deadline, manufacturers will not fix devices that violate FCC regulations. Please refer questions to your audio/visual supplier or Kathy Papalia at kpapalia@ErieRCD.org or 814-824-1184.

Mass time websites for vacationers may have incorrect information
The following websites provide Mass times to travelers and others: masstimes.org, parishesonline.com, catholicmasstime.org or ourcatholicneighborhood.com. These organizations may list out-of-date information for your parish. The Diocese of Erie does not directly authorize these sites to list our information. Parish staff are asked to regularly check Mass times on these websites so that information is up-to-date and accurate for visitors to our area.

Domain name renewal scam
Please carefully examine any domain name renewal invoices you receive through the U.S. mail or email. Scammers will attempt to steal your money by invoicing you for the renewal of a domain name. Sometimes, invoices will try to bill you for other organizations’ domains. For example, one parish was fraudulently invoiced for the renewal of the Diocese of Erie’s eriercd.org domain name. Often, fraudulent invoices include “Internet Domain Name Services” as the business name or in the logo. In most cases, the legitimate cost of domain name renewal is in the $15 range. However, scammers will invoice you for much higher dollar amounts.

Remember, if you have accepted a web page through the Diocese of Erie and have transferred your domain to the diocese, the only domain name invoice you will receive will come directly from Kathy Papalia. Whether you have accepted a web page through the diocese or not, email kpapalia@ErieRCD.org if you have questions concerning the validity of any domain name renewal invoices you may receive.
