Date set for permanent diaconate ordination
The next ordination to the permanent diaconate in the Diocese of Erie is scheduled for Friday, May 31, at St. Peter Cathedral in Erie. The ordination ceremony and Mass will begin at 7 p.m. More information will follow.

Beware of email sent by individuals posing as Bishop Persico
Individuals in the Diocese of Erie recently received an email from a scam artist claiming to be Bishop Lawrence Persico. The email was signed “Fr. Lawrence Persico.” Replies to the email resulted in a request for financial help in the form of gift cards. Be suspicious of anyone requesting gift cards by phone, email or text. Be reminded that communication from the bishop would only arrive through his official ErieRCD.org email account. He would never use a gmail account. You may wish to put the following announcement in your bulletin:

In this age when personal data can be misused by scam artists, please be aware that the Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie, clergy and entities such as parishes and schools will never solicit your personal or business information by any method unless initiated by you. Should you receive an unsolicited request (including an email or text message) for such information or a request for financial assistance (including the purchase of gift cards of any type), exercise extreme caution. Contact the person or entity by using official contact information only. Do not use contact information provided in the potential fraudulent request.

2019 Rice Bowl Collection
Pastors, administrators and principals will find attached Bishop Lawrence Persico’s letter introducing the 2019 Rice Bowl Collection. Parishes and schools are asked to publicize this collection in a significant way on the weekend of March 2-3 and in the days leading up to Lent.

Lenten dinners scheduled throughout diocese
To see a complete listing of the many 2019 Lenten dinners planned in parishes throughout the Diocese of Erie, see the attached PDF. Feel free to print and share this information.

FOCCUS Inventory session price to increase in July
FOCCUS has notified the Diocese of Erie that as of July 1, 2019, the price per session credit for couples to take the FOCCUS Inventory will increase from $15 to $20. See the attached letter from FOCCUS explaining the increase. Parishes that purchase session credits for engaged couples are encouraged to buy a quantity now at $15 before the price increase in July. After July 1, all session credits will cost $20, whether purchased by the parish or the engaged couples. Session credits may be purchased at www.foccusinc.com. For questions, contact the Family Life Office at 814-824-1261.

Catholic Services Appeal results for 2018
A little more than $6 million was raised in last year’s Catholic Services Appeal, with $1.8 million remaining in parishes. That’s a 20 percent increase from the $1.5 million that remained at the parish level from the 2017 CSA, meaning more projects were accomplished at the local level this past year.

As the 2019 CSA gets underway in the Diocese of Erie, parishes are encouraged to reach out to Julia Cooney at the Catholic Foundation for any assistance. Contact her at 814-824-1253 or jcooney@cfnwpa.org. See the attached PDS Financial Sync schedule for the 2019 CSA, which also is available at https://www.ErieRCD.org/Catholic-Services-Appeal-CSA-Materials.html.
