2021 Catholic Services Appeal
The Catholic Services Appeal (CSA) is the annual fundraising campaign of the Diocese of Erie that supports the day-to-day work of the Catholic Church in our diocese. The Catholic Foundation of Northwest Pennsylvania provides CSA campaign resources and support to the diocese. CSA materials that your parish ordered (brochures, posters, pledge cards, pledge envelopes, parish handbooks and a video DVD) will be mailed to your parish soon. For questions, contact Julia Cooney at 814-824-1253 or jcooney@cfnwpa.org.
Bishop to celebrate Respect Life Mass
Join Bishop Lawrence Persico in celebrating a Respect Life Mass at Erie’s Our Lady of Peace Parish on Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. The Mass is in person or can be viewed livestreamed on Our Lady of Peace’s YouTube page. Let us pray for the protection and respect of all life, from conception to natural death. Questions may be directed to the Social Justice & Life Office at sjl@ErieRCD.org.
Dial 814 for local calls in the 814 area code
The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission has approved a new 582 area code for areas previously served by the 814 area code. Please dial the area code for local as well as long distance calls to 814 numbers. After April 3, 2021, calls made to 814 numbers without dialing the area code will not go through. You must update the following systems to use a 10-digit number rather than seven digits: life safety systems and medical monitoring devices, fire or burglar alarm and security systems or gates, PBSs, FAX machines, speed dialers, call forwarding settings and voicemail services. Also, please check websites, personal and business stationery and advertising materials, personal and pet ID tags and other similar items to ensure the area code is included. The price of a local call will not change.
The ethical reception of COVID-19 vaccines
As various vaccines for COVID-19 are made available to the public, concerns about safety and efficacy — as well as the ethics of their research and development — challenge all to make informed choices. Bishop Lawrence Persico has issued a statement that provides information about the vaccines and a process of ethical decision-making consistent with Catholic values. The statement, which can be found at www.eriercd.org/news/News-releases.html, also includes links to several helpful Vatican and USCCB documents.

22:32 Men’s Conference offers in-person and Zoom format
The eighth annual 22:32 Men’s Conference, typically offered to hundreds of men at one location, will be held Feb. 27 at separate parishes in the Diocese of Erie. Men will gather at their own parishes in small groups to minimize the spread of COVID-19. The half-day event still features acclaimed Catholic speakers and witness stories that may be heard via Zoom beginning at 9 a.m. and ending at noon. With the cooperation of pastors, Mass and confessions may still be available before or after the formal presentations. For more information about hosting the conference at your parish or for your men’s group, contact Dave Wayman at taichiguy@icloud.com or 814-397-2809.
