2018 Collection for the Church in Latin America
Pastors and administrators will find attached Bishop Lawrence Persico’s letter introducing the 2018 Collection for the Church in Latin America. Parishes are asked to publicize this collection in a significant way the weekend of Aug. 11-12.

Tuition grants available to students
Tuition grants for new and current students in the Erie Catholic School System (six Catholic schools in Erie) are available through Aug. 17, 2018. Students new to the Erie Catholic School System receive a $1,500 grant toward tuition, with $1,000 being awarded in the first year, and $500 in the second year. Also, families enrolling a second student receive an additional $500 transfer grant in addition to our 50 percent second child tuition discount. Families must register for the 2018-19 school year by Aug. 17, 2018.

Mass time websites for vacationers may have incorrect information
The following websites provide Mass times to travelers and others: masstimes.org, parishesonline.com, catholicmasstime.org or ourcatholicneighborhood.com. These organizations may list out-of-date information for your parish. The Diocese of Erie does not directly authorize these sites to list our information. Parish staff are asked to regularly check Mass times on these websites so that information is up-to-date and accurate for visitors to our area.

Save-the-date: Gender Identity Pastoral Workshop
Priests, deacons and school and parish leadership are invited to attend a day-long pastoral workshop on how to address gender identity issues. More information will be coming. The workshop will be held at two different locations:

  • Oct. 2 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., St. Mark Catholic Center, 429 E. Grandview Blvd., Erie
  • Oct. 3 from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., St. Tobias Church (parish hall), 1135 Hewitt St., Brockway.

Latin America Collection


Gannon University to host lending event
Representatives from traditional and non-traditional lending institutions, as well as economic development and government agencies, will be at the Small Business Development Center’s “Meet the Lenders” event Aug. 14 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Gannon University’s Center for Business Ingenuity, 900 State St., Erie. The event will begin with a presentation about financing.

Married, single young adults welcome to holy hour
Married and single young adults are welcome to an evening of Eucharistic Adoration Aug. 24 beginning at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church, 837 Bartlett Road, Harborcreek, followed by dinner at 8 p.m. at a local eatery. The evening will include Eucharistic Adoration, confession, praise and worship music, and Benediction. Those who attend may come for as much or as little of the evening as their schedules permit.

Father Peterson tourney scheduled for September
The annual Father Peterson Golf Tournament benefiting Maria House Project will be held Sept. 15 at the Union City Country Club in Union City. Registration begins at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The cost is $75 per person and includes coffee and donuts, golf and a dinner buffet. The event benefits Maria House Project, an outreach to the marginalized, founded by the late Father James Peterson. For more information, call 814-873-0790. Part-time administrative assistant position available
This position is responsible for providing part-time assistance (25 hours per week) in the areas of administrative support, visual and written communications and special projects and events for the Office of Education (CSO). Responsibilities also include providing clerical support for the Natural Family Planning/Chastity Education Office. Must be willing to support the mission of Catholic education and the NFP/Chastity Education programs.

Requirements include a high school diploma with continuing education/experience in administrative areas, and three to five years of prior general office experience in a service environment. Candidates must demonstrate an aptitude and working knowledge of a variety of computer and software programs (e.g., Microsoft Office, Outlook, Excel, Access and Publisher). Occasional travel is required.

St. Martin Early Learning Center seeking full-time teachers
The St. Martin Early Learning Center in Erie is currently hiring four full-time teachers: two for its infant room, a float teacher and one for school-age children. All positions include an excellent benefit package. A degree in education, early childhood education or human services is required. Applicants must also be able to obtain all necessary clearances, pass a physical with TB testing, be able to lift at least 25 pounds, and possess a driver’s license.
