Diocese continues to respond to pandemic
Acting with the utmost caution and concern regarding the COVID-19 pandemic, the Diocese of Erie has closed St. Mark Catholic Center in Erie beginning today through at least April 1. This action will be reassessed in the coming days. The diocese is committed to monitoring the latest information available from reliable sources regarding the pandemic. Go to the diocesan website at www.ErieRCD.org for all of the most up-to-date information on the pandemic and its impact on the diocese.

COVID-19 parish offertory message to pastors and parish staff
Are you concerned about offertory decreasing during the coming weeks? The following is a proposed sample of a message parishes can use to communicate with their parishioners during this time. (Please personalize with your parish’s information.)

We know these are difficult times for everyone, including you and your family. [Parish Name] remains committed to the spiritual care of our parishioners and the faithful in our communities. Although how we do that is changing temporarily, our purpose remains the same. Please be assured of our prayers for you and your families, particularly in the daily private Mass(es) Father (s) __________ is/are offering for your intention.

[If you have parish office closings or changed hours, report that information here].

Please be aware that like any family, our parish has ongoing operating costs. We are entirely dependent upon you to meet those financial obligations. Please continue to make your weekly offertory gifts. [provide details – mail, drop-off, online].

If you have any questions, contact [name/number].

Community Foundation offers support to nonprofits
The Erie Community Foundation has created the COVID-19 Rapid Response Fund to provide grant dollars to support nonprofits that help Erie County residents impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. Funds may be used for both service delivery and salaries/overhead as essential to emergency response and viability. This fund will support nonprofits that:

  • provide food to those in need.
  • care for our children.
  • serve the elderly, who are the most vulnerable population to COVID-19.
  • help those suffering from hardships and job loss due to COVID-19.

For more information, go to https://www.eriegives.org/nonprofits. If you meet the above criteria and need help completing this online application, contact Michelle Basista, development officer at the Catholic Foundation, at 814-824-1192 or mbasista@cfnwpa.org.
