Permanent diaconate ordination
Four men will be ordained to the permanent diaconate for the Diocese of Erie by Bishop Lawrence Persico at St. Peter Cathedral, 230 W. 10th St., Erie, on May 31 at 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend. Please see attachment for details.

Heart of St. John Vianney, the Curé of Ars, to visit Diocese of ErieThe Diocese of Erie is privileged to host a significant relic, the heart of St. John Vianney, patron of priests, at St. Peter Cathedral on June 6, 2019. Parishes are asked to please publicize this event and consider organizing a pilgrimage. Please see the attachment for a schedule of the day. This also may be used as a bulletin insert. Wedding anniversary celebrations
Diocesan anniversary celebrations for couples celebrating 25, 50, 60 or more years of marriage in 2019 will be held at two locations in the Diocese of Erie this summer:

  • Aug. 4 at 2 p.m., St. Catherine of Siena Parish, DuBois
  • Aug. 25 at 2 p.m., Sacred Heart Parish, Erie.

Parish staff are asked to read and download the two anniversary attachments for full details. Couples and/or parish staff may complete a registration form online at Although the online method is preferred, a hard copy of the registration form is attached for your convenience. Is your organization having a festival late this summer or fall?
Faith magazine’s August 2019 edition will publish a listing of festivals or events occurring later in the summer or into the fall. Some space may be available for display ads as well. The listing also will be made available online and through social media. Please provide the details, date(s), time, place and cost for the event and, if needed, a phone number and/or website for questions. The cost is $45 per listing.

Discounted antivirus software for parishes
The Diocese of Erie is switching from Symantec Endpoint protection to ESET Endpoint for antivirus protection. The change is being made because ESET’s protection capabilities and efficiency surpass that of Symantec EndPoint Protection. The discounted price for ESET is $12.10 per computer. This represents a temporary price increase of $3 per license over Symantec’s $9 renewal price. However, renewal prices are expected to return to about $9 next year. To purchase antivirus software at this discounted rate, please contact Kathy Papalia by May 20, 2019, at or 814-824-1184. If your parish purchased Symantec Endpoint Protection through the diocese, it will receive an email regarding the switch. Please respond to the Antivirus Renewal Authorization email by May 23, 2019.

Does your parish need Microsoft Office?
To purchase Microsoft Office 365 for your parish, please contact Kathy Papalia at or 814-824-1184. For $36 per person per year, you can get installed versions of Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook and Publisher. This price includes one free email account per subscription. There also is a free version of Microsoft Office 365, which includes one free email per subscription and online versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Email branding also is available for parishes that want their email address to match their web page address. If a parish does not have a web page, the Diocese of Erie can provide one free of charge.

Join the Silent Walk for Peace
Benedictines for Peace in Erie will hold May’s Silent Walk for Peace May 22 from 7 to 7:30 p.m. at Emmaus Grove: The Erie Urban Farm School, 218 E. 11th St., Erie. The walk will begin in the garden and continue in silence, single-file, around the Inner-City Neighborhood Art House and Emmaus Soup Kitchen and Food Pantry before returning to the garden.

Senior, caregiver fair/lunch offered at three parishes
Three Erie parishes are presenting a senior and caregiver fair and lunch in June. Experts will offer ways to get personal affairs in order. There also will be health and fitness assessments, presentations about finances, wills, funeral planning, medication management and full home care. The fairs will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon, followed by lunch at the following locations, dates:

  • St. Jude the Apostle, 2801 W. 6th St., Erie, June 7
  • St. George, 5145 Peach St., Erie, June 11
  • Blessed Sacrament, 1626 W. 26th, Erie, June 12

A suggested donation to attend is $20, with a $15 discount for members of a faith community. Lunch is included in the donation. The events are supported by LECOM Institute for Successful Aging. Sign-up now for Vacation Bible School at Our Lady of Peace, Erie
“Cool Kingdom Party, Mary Leads Me Closer to Jesus” is the theme of a one-week summer Vacation Bible School that will take place at Our Lady of Peace Church from July 29 through August 2, 2019. Students currently in Kindergarten through 4th grade are invited to attend. Camp will run from 8:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. each day.
