Parishes in the Diocese of Erie are asked to promote in their bulletins the new Diocese of EriE-news, a free, weekly e-newsletter featuring important diocesan news, information, photos, Vatican and U.S. Catholic news delivered to your inbox every Monday morning.

Want to win a Gregorian chant Christmas CD set?
If you like chant, then you’ll love Gregorian Chant Christmas, a newly packaged two-CD set from the Monastic Choir of St. Peter’s Abbey in Solesmes, France. St. Peter’s Abbey in Solesmes, France, is responsible for the resurgence of Gregorian chant in recent years. The CD set includes chants for Christmas Midnight Mass, the Christmas Mass of the Day, and Night Office Vigils for Christmas. Read all about chant in the December edition of Faith magazine.
All Erie County parishes to offer confession Dec. 5
Priests of the parishes located in Erie County are introducing a new approach for the sacrament of reconciliation during Advent this year. The approximately 30 parishes in the county will participate in “The Light is On for You,” opening their doors for all who wish to go to confession on Wednesday, Dec. 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. All are welcome. Those who are hesitant to return to the sacrament are encouraged to do so — prayer cards and other resources will be available. Save the dates for men’s and women’s conferences
Dates have been set for the 22:32 Men’s Conference and the 1:38 Women’s Conference, both sponsored by the Reason for Our Hope Foundation. Each event will be held at Our Lady of Peace Parish, Erie. Priests are asked to save the dates in order, if at all possible, to be available for confessions in the early afternoon on those days. More information will be forthcoming at the beginning of January. Here are the dates:

- March 30, 2019 – 1:38 Women’s Conference
Volunteers needed for overflow shelter
Our Neighbor’s Place, the overflow shelter for homeless persons in Erie, is in need of additional help for this winter season. Holy Trinity Lutheran Church has opened its facility from Dec. 5-18, but volunteer staff are still needed in a variety of areas. Needs range from providing meals for 55 shelter guests to staffing the overflow shelter for a period of the night. Play, reunion planned at Mercyhurst Prep
The Mercyhurst Prep Performing Arts Department presents “Guys and Dolls” Nov. 15-17 at 7 p.m., and Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. at the school’s Performing Arts Center, 538 East Grandview Blvd., Erie. Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for seniors, and $5 for students. MPS requests that all former students, faculty and friends from the April 1978 MPS production of “Guys and Dolls” come for an onstage reunion following the final bows of the performance on Nov. 17. Informational meeting scheduled for summer pilgrimage
Father Jason Mitchell and Deacon Ray Sobina and his wife, Deb Sobina, are planning a pilgrimage to Rome, Fatima and Lourdes this summer. Mount Carmel to hold annual Feather Party
The 58th annual Our Lady of Mount Carmel Feather Party will be held Nov. 17 from 6 to 10 p.m. at Scheffner Hall, 1531 East Grandview Blvd. Admission is free. There will be free refreshments, tips, a wine and craft beer booth, fruit basket raffles, cash prizes and the opportunity to win a turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Help celebrate the 500th Cursillo
The Erie Cursillo Movement will be hosting its 500th Cursillo in the Diocese of Erie. We are celebrating with a special closing for those who already have attended a weekend. The closing will be held Nov. 18, beginning at 4:30 p.m., and will include special events and good food. If you already have made a Cursillo, you are most welcome to attend. It’s an excellent time to return to the Cursillo Movement. De Colores!
Worship, healing service planned in Falls Creek
There will be a worship and healing service Nov. 18 beginning at 6 p.m. at St. Bernard Church, 205 Taylor Ave., Falls Creek. Father Mark Mastrian, pastor of St. Joseph Parish, Force, will lead the service. Music will be provided by Shalom. Make your reservations by Nov. 29 for the Harborcreek Youth Services’ annual Friends’ Christmas Dinner Dec. 6 at the Lawrence Park Golf Club, 3700 East Lake Road, Erie. RSVP at www.hys-erie.org. Nativity sets to be displayed at Waterford parish
All Saints Parish in Waterford is hosting its fourth “No Room at the Inn” event featuring a collection of Nativity scenes. Parishioners and members of the community contribute their heirloom Nativity sets for the weekend event. The crèches range from big to small. The event will be held Nov. 30 from 5 to 8 p.m., Dec. 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m., and Dec. 2 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is at least one non-perishable food item. All food donations will be given to the Waterford or Summit food pantries. Monetary donations will go to the Mercy Center for Women in Erie. Whodunit? Find out at Blessed Sacrament’s murder-mystery event
The murder mystery dinner theater presentation “Jukebox Jujutsu” will be held Dec. 1 in the cafeteria of Blessed Sacrament Parish, 1626 W. 26th St., Erie. Doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person and will be sold only in advance by calling Al Smith at 814-460-7637. The dinner will be catered by Nunzi’s Restaurant. Beer, wine and soft drinks will be provided. BYOB also is welcome. There also will be a 50/50 raffle.
