2018 Retirement Fund for Religious

The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception—Dec. 8
The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception on Dec. 8 remains a holy day of obligation even though it falls on a Saturday this year. In the United States, we celebrate Mary, under the title of the Immaculate Conception, as our national patroness. Nonetheless, because it is the Advent season, any Eucharistic liturgy celebrated on the evening of Saturday, Dec. 8, from 4 p.m. onward should use the texts of the Mass of the second Sunday of Advent, not the texts of the Mass for the Immaculate Conception. An Advent Sunday takes precedence over the celebration of the Immaculate Conception.
*Please note: The faithful are to participate in both a Mass for the Immaculate Conception and a Mass for the second Sunday of Advent. For questions, contact the Office of Worship at 814-824-1270.
