2021 Catholic Campaign for Human Development
Please find attached Bishop Lawrence Persico’s letter introducing the 2021 collection for the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, to be taken the weekend of Nov. 20-21, 2021. Parishes are asked to publicize this collection in a significant way on the weekend of Nov. 13-14.

Diocesan, episcopal coats of arms updated
Bishop Lawrence Persico recently discovered that the field on the diocesan coat of arms should be rendered in silver, not white. While the blue “waves” suggest Lake Erie, the silver is related to the coat of arms of William Penn, founder of Pennsylvania, thus indicating the state in which the Diocese of Erie is located. Updated versions of both the diocesan and episcopal coats of arms can be downloaded at https://www.eriercd.org/coa.html. Diocesan offices, parishes and affiliated agencies may still use any printed materials that feature the white field until they are depleted. But as new print or digital materials are created, the updated versions should be integrated. Websites and social media platforms also should be updated.

Suggestions to observe the end of the Year of St. Joseph
As the Year of St. Joseph draws to a close, clergy are asked to see the attached suggestions from the Office of Worship on how to observe the end of this year with your parish.

Parishes asked to promote letter regarding preparation for upcoming synod
The Chancery and the Office of Faith Formation of the Diocese of Erie have released a letter to parishioners regarding the work that has begun in dioceses across the world in preparation for the 2023 Synod of Bishops. The letter, which is attached, includes a brief synopsis of the synod and details how parishes will be brought into the process in early 2022. A banner with a link to the letter has been posted on all parish websites that are connected to the diocesan system. Parishes with independent sites are invited to use the letter supplied in the attachments or simply to provide a link to the letter, which is posted at www.eriercd.org/news/News-releases.html. Graphics for parish bulletins, websites and social media are available at https://www.eriercd.org/synod.html. All are invited to share this information on their social media platforms.
