Important update from the Office of Worship
Bishop Lawrence Persico has announced changes to people’s posture during the Communion Rite of the Mass. Attached, you will find two documents: the text to the decree and the letter sent to priests that provides insight into the bishop’s reasoning.

Diocesan, episcopal coats of arms updated
Bishop Lawrence Persico recently discovered that the field on the diocesan coat of arms should be rendered in silver, not white. While the blue “waves” suggest Lake Erie, the silver is related to the coat of arms of William Penn, founder of Pennsylvania, thus indicating the state in which the Diocese of Erie is located. Updated versions of both the diocesan and episcopal coats of arms can be downloaded at https://www.eriercd.org/coa.html. Diocesan offices, parishes and affiliated agencies may still use any printed materials that feature the white field until they are depleted. But as new print or digital materials are created, the updated versions should be integrated. Websites and social media platforms also should be updated.

Catholic schools seeking teachers and substitutes
Unexpected challenges of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic continue to emerge. Catholic schools across the Diocese of Erie are in need of both teachers and substitutes. The Catholic Schools Office encourages people with four-year college degrees to reach out to their local Catholic schools to learn more about the need and to consider applying to work on a short- or long-term basis. A teaching certificate is not required to serve as a substitute, but clearances are necessary for both teachers and substitutes. School leaders will provide the necessary support for completing the mandatory clearances. To learn about Catholic schools in the Diocese of Erie, go to www.eriercd.org/schools/.

Suggestions to observe the end of the Year of St. Joseph
