2018 World Mission Sunday Collection
Pastors and administrators will find attached Bishop Lawrence Persico’s letter introducing the 2018 World Mission Sunday Collection. Parishes are asked to publicize this collection in a significant way on the weekend of Oct. 13-14.
October Count begins this weekend
Pastors are reminded that October Count starts this coming weekend. Please make arrangements to have someone count weekend Mass attendance each weekend in October. The Mass Count form and instructions for submitting this year’s October Count can be found at https://www.eriercd.org/images/pdf/octobercount.pdf.
Important information concerning October vicariate meetings
All clergy are asked to take note of an email sent to them concerning the pastoral planning vicariate meetings scheduled for Oct. 23-25. For your convenience, the letter from Bishop Lawrence Persico concerning the vicariate meetings and a list of people to be invited from parishes are attached. Please be sure to RSVP to Sister Kathleen Dietz, FSO, at kdietz@ErieRCD.org no later than Oct. 12.

Speaker series scheduled at Holy Cross Parish
Holy Cross Parish in Fairview is hosting a speaker series on the topic of death through the month of October. See the attached flier for more information.
Rosary March scheduled for Oct. 14
The 24th annual Rosary March sponsored by the Erie Division of the World Apostolate of Fatima will be held Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. at St. Peter Cathedral, Erie. The event will be held rain or shine. Please come and offer your prayers for peace in the world, for your families, for consecrated life and for our church. There will be exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction. Beloved Nights offered to couples
The Office of Chastity Education of the Diocese of Erie is offering Beloved Nights on Oct. 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the following four locations: St. Mary’s Church, 325 Church St., St. Marys; Church of the Beloved Disciple, 1310 S. Center St. Extension, Grove City; St. Brigid Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville; and St. Mark Catholic Center, 429 East Grandview Blvd., Erie. These are evenings for married couples of all ages, as well as engaged couples, to reconnect amidst the busyness of life. Free baby-sitting is offered, with a complimentary dinner provided for children. Couples will enjoy fellowship, a video and discussion, and then an off-site date night of their choosing. Cathedral Prep to hold open house
Anyone interested in attending Cathedral Preparatory School is invited to attend an open house Oct. 21 from noon to 3 p.m. at the school, 225 W. 9th St., Erie. Guided tours will include classroom demonstrations, a visit to science labs and classrooms and information on STEM, robotics, 3-D printing and technology programs. Applications will be available during the open house. There is no application fee. Students in attendance will be entered in a drawing for discounts on tuition. St. George to host parish mission
Father Paul D. Seil of the Diocese of Buffalo, N.Y., will lead the parish mission at St. George Church, 5145 Peach St., Erie, Oct. 22-24. Presentations will begin at 7 p.m. each day, with a reception following the presentation on Oct. 24. Father Seil will focus on the following topics: Welcome: Extending Hospitality; Reconcile: Finding Healing in Times of Sorrow; Evangelize: Proclaiming! No RSVP needed. Mercy Sisters sponsor ‘Late Nite Catechism’
Join Erie Mayor Joe Schember and his wife, Rhonda, for the hilarious live show “Late Nite Catechism: ’Til Death Do Us Part.” The event will be held Oct. 24, beginning at 5:30 p.m., at the Bel-Aire Clarion Hotel and Conference Center, Erie. The Sisters of Mercy in Erie are sponsoring the evening, which includes a cocktail reception, dinner and the show. Open house scheduled at Villa Maria
Villa Maria Academy, 2403 W. 8th St., Erie, will hold an open house Oct. 28 from noon to 3 p.m. Guided tours will include classroom demonstrations and visits to classrooms, science labs, fitness center, dance studio, auditorium and café. Information will be available on college credit opportunities, the school’s 3-D printers and its academic curriculum. Applications will be available at no cost to apply.
