Today's gospel speaks of light and darkness. Often, parents are deliberately "left in the dark." Darkness can be comforting because it makes no demands on us, while light can be disturbing as it forces us to take action. Parents must walk a delicate balance between "sitting in the dark" and "turning on the lights."
