2018 Collection for National Needs
Pastors and administrators will find attached Bishop Lawrence Persico’s letter introducing the 2018 Collection for National Needs. Parishes are asked to publicize this collection in a significant way on the weekend of July 14-15.

 

Bishop to preside at permanent diaconate’s 50th anniversary Mass
The 50th anniversary of the restored permanent diaconate in the United States is celebrated this year. See the attached letter from Bishop Lawrence Persico regarding this special occasion. A diocesan Mass of celebration is planned Aug. 4 at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of Peace Church, 2401 W. 38th St., Erie. All are welcome to attend.

Attached is the July “Marriage Matters” newsletter of the Office of the Tribunal and Matrimonial Concerns of the Diocese of Erie.

Take Me to Worship order deadline extended
The Take Me to Worship 2018 order deadline has been extended to July 6. To order materials, contact the Family Life Office at 814-824-1265 or at familylife@ErieRCD.org. Car magnets and yard signs are available for purchase. Parishes outside of Erie County may receive one free yard sign (Erie County parishes received free yard signs in 2017.) See two attached documents: an image of the Take Me to Worship magnet, and a sheet of information with an updated price list for Take Me to Worship materials.

OLP to host one-week Vacation Bible School
Our Lady of Peace Parish, 2401 W. 38th St., Erie, is hosting its first Vacation Bible School Aug. 6-10. Students currently in kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to attend. The school will run from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day, ending with a 12:10 p.m. Mass for families on Friday. The cost is $35 per child and includes a T-shirt, daily snack and supplies. Register by July 6 to be guaranteed a T-shirt. Complete the attached registration form (per student) and either drop it off at the church office or mail to: Our Lady of Peace Parish, ATTN: Faith Formation, 2401 W. 38th St., Erie, PA 16506. Joy Ministries to host outdoor music/praise event
Joy Ministries of the Diocese of Erie is hosting “Music on the Hill,” an evening of music and praise, at St. Mark Catholic Center, 429 E. Grandview Blvd., Erie, July 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. All are welcome; bring lawn chairs and blankets. Enjoy various praise band music. Joy Ministries is an outreach to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Shroud exhibit shown in Lucinda
St. Joseph Parish in Lucinda will sponsor the “Man of the Shroud” exhibit Aug. 4-12 in the parish social hall on Route 66. Exhibition hours will be posted on the parish website (http://www.st-joseph-lucinda.org/) throughout July and August. The exhibit includes an exact, full-length replica of the Shroud of Turin and many panels detailing the history and science of the shroud, as well as a large crucifix showing the wounds of Christ. The Franciscan Friars of Marytown, Ill., of the National Shrine of St. Maximilian Kolbe make the mobile exhibit available to the public.
