Feast of Mary Magdalene, July 22
In 2016, the Holy See raised the liturgical rank of the memorial of St. Mary Magdalene to a feast, with the date remaining July 22. A new preface before the Eucharistic Prayer for the feast also was promulgated. The proper liturgical text in English (including musical notation) of the preface in honor of St. Mary Magdalene can be found in the attachments. Also attached is the sung text. Other texts for this feast are found in the liturgical books, including the rest of the Mass formulary in the Roman Missal, Third Edition. The “Gloria” also is sung or said for this Mass, and the Proper of Saints readings found in No. 603 of the Lectionary for Mass are proper, not optional.

Clergy survey
Priests and deacons are reminded that the survey from the Office of Worship is due July 22, 2020.

Checklist for reopening in-person faith formation activities
For anyone preparing to offer in-person faith formation programming (religious education, small groups, Bible studies, etc.), the attached checklist will assist in following guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Pastors, parish staff and faith formation leaders should continue to collaborate on any reopening plans for faith formation programs, and there is still good reason to consider whether programs should open in-person at all. Please know that the Office of Faith Formation in the Diocese of Erie continues to actively discern resources and the best path forward, including virtual options. The Faith Formation team will continue to correspond with faith formation leaders on any new developments. For questions, contact Deacon Steve Washek at 814-824-1215.

Samuel Group: a new initiative for young adults discerning any vocation
Just because everyone else seems to think you are prepared for life as an adult doesn’t mean you aren’t wrestling with the big questions. Not to worry — you are not alone! The Vocations Office and the Office of Youth and Young Adult Ministry are collaborating on a new initiative called Samuel Group. Are you contemplating marriage? Wondering if you are being called to the priesthood or religious life? Samuel Group may be just what you need. Young adults ages 20 to 30 are encouraged to participate in a seven-month journey that includes monthly gatherings at St. Mark Catholic Center, spiritual direction, prayer, talks, small group discussion and accompaniment. The goal is for each participant to grow in self-knowledge and to hear and respond to God’s call with an open heart. Space is limited.

Please visit www.eriercd.org/youth/samuelgroup.html for an informational video, directions on how to apply and a downloadable flier. For convenience, the Samuel Group flier is attached and may be shared. For further information, contact Father Mike Polinek, director of Vocations, at mpolinek@ErieRCD.org or Jillian Zaczyk, director of Young Adult and Youth Ministry, at jzaczyk@ErieRCD.org.
