Clergy appointments
Please find attached the most recent clergy appointments from Bishop Lawrence Persico.
Also, the bishop has announced that, effective July 1, 2020, the position of vicar for education will cease to exist, and no new vicar will be named. The current Office of Education, which now houses both the Catholic Schools Office and the Faith Formation Office, will be divided into its two separate parts. This means that as of July 1, there will be a separate Catholic Schools Office (headed by Jim Gallagher, superintendent) and a separate Office for Faith Formation (headed by Deacon Steve Washek, executive director). The Office of Education, as such, will no longer exist.
Holy oils available for pick up
Because the Chrism Mass was not public this year, many clergy were unable to bring their own bottles to be filled with holy oils. Clergy are advised that they may now pick up the extra oil they need by visiting St. Mark Catholic Center, which has resumed normal work hours. To make arrangements, please call the Worship Office at 814-824-1271 or email mgrant@ErieRCD.org.
Emmaus days for clergy announced
Due to the COVID-19 restrictions in place, it is not possible for the Diocese Erie to hold its annual Emmaus Convocation this year. However, June 16 has been designated as Emmaus Day for priests of the diocese, and June 18 has been designated as Emmaus Day for permanent deacons of the diocese. Talks will be presented on both days and priests and deacons are asked to participate via Zoom on their respective days — either with other priests or deacons in small gatherings or by themselves, if they prefer. Zoom participation instructions will be sent to all clergy via diocesan email.
Members of the laity are asked to keep our priests and deacons especially in prayer on these Emmaus days, as has been the custom during the Emmaus Convocation. Please call the Chancery at 814-824-1135 with any questions.
Avoid Zoom scams
To capitalize on Zoom’s popularity as a video meeting platform, scammers are hoping you’ll click links in their malicious email. Learn to spot fake Zoom meeting invitations. For more information, visit https://www.eriercd.org/Computer-Security-Awareness-Training.html and click the June 15 link.
Temporary #iGiveCatholic link closing after June 30
As noted in previous Information Bulletin posts, the Catholic Foundation facilitated the emergency activation of the national #iGiveCatholic platform in March for use with local COVID-19 relief fundraising. This fundraising tool will only be available through June 30.
Gifts to your parishes, schools and Catholic ministries can be made at https://erie.igivecatholic.org/. Beginning July 1, #iGiveCatholic programming efforts will focus on plans for the original, annual #iGiveCatholic on Giving Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020. Michelle Basista from the Catholic Foundation will provide more information on this in the coming months.
