Intercessions on abuse crisis
The Office of Worship has prepared intercessions related to the release of the Pennsylvania Grand Jury report on the abuse of children in the Catholic dioceses of Pennsylvania. Please see the attachment. Feel free to modify the intercessions to suit the needs of your parish liturgies.
FaithLife ceases publication; nwpaCatholic.com launched
FaithLife newspaper ceased publication on June 24. Parishes will no longer need volunteers to do bi-weekly newspaper inserts into bulletins. Parishes are asked to publicize the launch of nwpaCatholic.com, the news site of the Diocese of Erie, and to encourage parishioners to sign up for a free bi-weekly e-newsletter that will be coming in the near future. Fourth of July celebration and 5K Run/Walk
St. Joseph Parish in Lucinda is hosting its 79th annual Fourth of July celebration on the church grounds, 112 Rectory Lane, July 4 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and its Liberty 5K Run/Walk on July 7 beginning at 9 a.m. at the historic Lucinda Train Station, 1040 Lander Drive. Dinners will be available in the dining room from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.; take-outs will be available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dinner tickets are $9 for adults, $4.50 for children 6 to 12, and free for children under 6. Days of Prayer at Carmelite Monastery
The Carmelite nuns in Erie invite everyone to attend the 61st annual Days of Prayer at the Carmelite Monastery, 510 East Gore Road, Erie, July 11-16. Father Ronan Murphy, chaplain of the Carmel of Brooklyn, N.Y., will be the preacher. Mass will be celebrated each day at 8 a.m. A service with Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament and a sermon will be held at 7:30 p.m. each day, except for the evening of July 16, the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The rosary and divine mercy chaplet will be offered daily at 7:15 a.m. and 6:45 p.m.
Joy Ministries to host outdoor music/praise event
Joy Ministries of the Diocese of Erie is hosting “Music on the Hill,” an evening of music and praise, at St. Mark Catholic Center, 429 E. Grandview Blvd., Erie, July 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. All are welcome; bring lawn chairs and blankets. Enjoy various praise band music. Joy Ministries is an outreach to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Shroud exhibit shown in Lucinda
St. Joseph Parish in Lucinda will sponsor the “Man of the Shroud” exhibit Aug. 4-12 in the parish social hall on Route 66. Exhibition hours will be posted on the parish website (http://www.st-joseph-lucinda.org/) throughout July and August. The exhibit includes an exact, full-length replica of the Shroud of Turin and many panels detailing the history and science of the shroud, as well as a large crucifix showing the wounds of Christ. The Franciscan Friars of Marytown, Ill., of the National Shrine of St. Maximilian Kolbe make the mobile exhibit available to the public.
