Modifications to COVID-19 precautions at Mass

U.S. bishops offer virtual rosary for national unity
The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) welcomes everyone to participate in a virtual rosary for national unity and healing on Oct. 7 at 3 p.m. The date celebrates the Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary. To participate, go to www.usccb.org/rosary-america and click on the link to either YouTube or Facebook. The USCCB will use the hashtag #RosaryForAmerica and asks participants to share where they are praying from, to post a photo of their rosary, and to leave a prayer intention for our country.

Pastors asked to review diocesan directory for changes
Pastors and parish office personnel are asked to closely review the email sent Sept. 28, 2020, regarding the diocesan directory. Pastors need to review and approve any updates to their parish information before it is submitted to the Office of Communications for inclusion in the 2021 directory. Parishes are asked to respond by Oct. 16, 2020.

New marriage preparation retreat option
The Marriage and Family Life Office of the Diocese of Erie is happy to offer a new, completely online, community-focused option for marriage preparation beginning in 2021. The Mentor-Cohort option takes place over four weeks in a small group with one or two mentor couples and engaged couples. It includes private time for couples to discuss and grow, space in a small community to process and wrestle with significant themes, and direct instruction from Dynamic Catholic’s Better Together program. Erie parish to hold pro-life holy hour
St. Stanislaus Parish, E. 13th and Wallace streets, Erie, is holding a pro-life holy hour Oct. 18 at 2 p.m. All are welcome to pray before the Blessed Sacrament for a greater respect for life. Please wear masks. Questions? Please call 814-452-3395.

Rest and renew at Bethany Retreat Center
The Bethany Retreat Center in Frenchville invites people to take a day or days of personal retreat to focus on self-care. How are you taking care of yourself spiritually, physically and emotionally? Days of renewal are offered for those who want to come for a day, overnight or a few days to join the Sisters of Anawim for prayer and daily Mass, reconciliation, home-cooked meals and for walks on the grounds. COVID-19 safety precautions are in full force to keep you and our staff safe. If you do not reside in a COVID “hot spot,” are not experiencing any symptoms, or have not been around anyone exposed to the virus, you are welcome to come. Learn how spirituality affects health and DNA
The Bethany Retreat Center in Frenchville is offering a Neuroscience & Well-Being Retreat Oct.  9-11. The presenter is Ann Kertz Kernion, who will explain how our spiritual habits affect our physical and emotional health. Participants will explore recent findings in neuroscience and positive psychology, showing how practices such as mindfulness, meditation, gratitude, compassion and community have positive health effects. Diocese of Harrisburg offers virtual women’s conference
The Diocese of Harrisburg invites all women to attend a virtual women’s conference, Catholic Women: Our Place at the Table, on Oct. 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. Conference registration is $10. Emily Stimpson Chapman, a nationally recognized Catholic author, speaker and blogger, will give the keynote address. A Eucharistic holy hour as well as praise and worship are included. Catholic’s divorce healing program offered
The Catholic’s Divorce Survival Guide (CDSG), a 12-week group program, will be held online beginning Oct. 14. The program will run Wednesdays from Oct. 14 to Nov. 18, and finish Wednesdays from Jan. 13 to Feb. 17. All sessions will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. A link to join the online video conference will be sent to participants when they register. The cost is $20 for the book/journal. Many topics will be addressed through DVDs with experienced presenters and with men and women who have felt the pain of divorce. Join Beep Beep Bingo at Blessed Sacrament
Blessed Sacrament Parish in Erie is hosting its first Beep Beep Bingo event Oct. 16 in the parish parking lot (entrance at 2510 Greengarden Road). Play bingo and other games from the comfort of your car. All passengers in the vehicle must be 18 or over to attend and each vehicle occupant must purchase a packet. There will be cash prizes, gift cards, designer purses to win and theme baskets. Each packet is $30 and can be purchased at https://checkout.square.site/buy/6M7LE57FSIWPU5U34SENPO7B or in person at the school office. Tickets must be purchased in one payment per car. Packets will be ready the night you arrive. All proceeds benefit Blessed Sacrament Advancement Scholarship. Villa and Prep to hold open houses
Villa Maria Academy, 2403 W. 8th St., and Cathedral Prep, 225 W. 9th St., both in Erie, will hold open houses this fall. Prep’s open house will be Oct. 18 from noon to 3 p.m.; Villa’s will be Oct. 25 from noon to 3 p.m. Both days will include guided tours and interactive classroom demonstrations, among many other opportunities.
