Pastoral response to gender identity questions
Pastors and principals will find attached an invitation to a conference on a pastoral response to gender identity questions. All clergy, faith formation leaders, youth ministers, school principals, presidents and guidance counselors are invited. Participants may choose to attend the conference on Oct. 2 at St. Mark Catholic Center, Erie, or Oct. 3 at St. Tobias Parish, Brockway.
October Count to begin soon
Pastors are reminded that the annual October Count starts Oct. 6, 2018. Visit https://www.ErieRCD.org/images/pdf/octobercount.pdf to download the form and the instructions for submitting October Count figures electronically. Silent Walk for Peace scheduled Sept. 20
Benedictines for Peace in Erie will host its monthly Silent Walk for Peace Sept. 20 from 7 to 7:30 p.m., beginning and ending at the East Avenue Boat Launch at the foot of East Avenue in Erie. Walkers will move in single file past the Erie COKE plant. The event is part of the national Campaign Nonviolence Week of Action Sept. 15-23. Prayers will be for inner peace as a foundation for constructive action in concert with the earth. All are invited to participate.
Joy Ministries to host retreat
Joy Ministries will hold a retreat Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families/caregivers. The event will be held at Camp Glinodo, 6270 East Lake Road, Erie. The retreat director is Father George Strohmeyer. 6th annual Harvest Fest celebrates fall bounty
All are welcome to the 6th annual Harvest Fest at Emmaus Food Pantry/Soup Kitchen’s Emmaus Grove, 214 E. 11th St., Erie, on Sept. 30 from 1 to 4 p.m. Enjoy the music of Tennessee Backporch, light refreshments, a garden tour and raffle baskets. No reservations required.
Volunteers needed for St. Joseph Oktoberfest
Teens who need service hours are invited to volunteer for the St. Joseph Parish Oktoberfest in Erie Oct. 5-7. Help is needed in the following areas: photo booth, outside kitchen à la carte, kitchen food order ticket-takers, coffee house servers, eating area and table clearers, and kitchen drink porter. Save the date for Hennessy talk
Mercyhurst University in Erie will host Kate Hennessy, granddaughter of Dorothy Day, the founder of the Catholic Worker Movement, who will speak Oct. 9 at 7 p.m. on her book, The World Will Be Saved by Beauty. The event will be held at the Mary D’Angelo performing Arts Center at the Erie campus. It is free and open to the public.
Son of God Prayer Group organizes healing Mass
The Son of God Prayer Group at Holy Rosary Parish will host a healing Mass Oct. 9 at 6:30 p.m. at Holy Rosary Church, 2701 East Ave., Erie, with Father Johnathan Schmolt as the main presider. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. to allow time to submit prayer requests. Praise music will begin at 6:15 p.m. Individual prayers will follow the Mass. Rosary March scheduled for Oct. 14
The 24th annual Rosary March sponsored by the Erie Division of the World Apostolate of Fatima will be held Oct. 14 at 2 p.m. at St. Peter Cathedral, Erie. The event will be held rain or shine. Please come and offer your prayers for peace in the world, for your families, for consecrated life and for our church. There will be exposition of the Blessed Sacrament and Benediction. Beloved Nights offered to couples
The Office of Chastity Education of the Diocese of Erie is offering “Beloved Nights” on Oct. 14 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the following four locations: St. Mary’s Church, 325 Church St., St. Marys; Church of the Beloved Disciple, 1310 S. Center St. Extension, Grove City; St. Brigid Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville; and St. Mark Catholic Center, 429 East Grandview Blvd., Erie.
The evening is for married couples of all ages, as well as engaged couples, to reconnect amidst the busyness of life. Free babysitting is offered with a complimentary dinner provided for children. Couples will arrive at 4 p.m. for fellowship, and then will view a 30-minute video on marriage, followed by discussion. Beginning at 5 p.m., couples can take advantage of an off-site date night of their choosing.

Cursillo for women scheduled in October
A women’s Cursillo will be held Oct. 18-21 at Our Lady of Mercy Church on Bartlett Road in Harborcreek. This Cursillo is open to women of all ages; the only requirement, however, is that if married, your husband must complete a Cursillo weekend first. Spend a day at the Hope House Retreat Center
Hope House Retreat Center, an outreach of The Reason for Our Hope Foundation in Erie, invites everyone to enjoy a Day of Reflection with Father Dennis Martin on Nov. 10 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $35, which includes breakfast and lunch. Father Martin will address the topic, “Into the Light.” This event is designed for anyone ages 18 and older.
