Gate of Heaven Cemetery and Mausoleum

5711 West Lake Road
Erie, Pa. 16505

Gate of Heaven Cemetery is the largest of all the Erie Diocesan Cemeteries and is the unofficial gateway to the West County of Erie along the border of Millcreek Township and Fairview Township where West Lake Road and Millfair Road intersect.  The land was purchased in the 1950's and Bishop Whealon consecrated the cemetery on June 30, 1968.  The west side of the cemetery borders Lake Shore Country Club and the south side of the cemetery borders a soccer field and baseball field and are just a few of the reasons why many local residents enjoy walking the landscaped grounds.  There is a chapel located next to the mausoleum on the east side of the cemetery where visitors can pray and reflect.  Mass is celebrated by Father Thomas Fialkowski on the third Saturday of every month at 9:00 AM in honor of all those that have been laid to rest in the Erie Diocesan Cemeteries.  Afterwards, coffee and snacks are shared amongst the attendees in the spirit of fellowship. In addition, Bishop Persico celebrates an outdoor mass every Memorial Day at 9:00 AM and an indoor mass on On Souls Day at 4:00 PM.  Finally, although space in the mausoleum has been selected, there are many graves available in the cemetery grounds as well as glass front and marble front cremation niches inside the mausoleum.  Please be aware, the office is open by appointment only and all inquiries should be directed to the main office located at Calvary Cemetery by phone 814-838-7724 or email questions@eriedc.org
