250 Works of Mercy

As the United States prepares to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Catholics are invited to join in prayer, service and works of mercy for the unity and healing of our country.

The Diocese of Erie invites individuals, families, parishes and groups to participate in 250 Works of Mercy leading up to July 4.

This is not a collection or reporting effort through the diocese. Instead, the faithful are encouraged to take part in existing parish efforts, serve with local organizations or find simple ways to care for others in their own communities.

What are the Works of Mercy?
The Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy are ways Catholics live out the Gospel by serving Christ in others.

Ways to participate
     • Works of mercy can take many forms, including:
     • Assisting women facing a crisis pregnancy
     • Donating to food pantries or clothing closets
     • Participating in a community beautification program
     • Raising money for an overseas development project
     • Sponsoring a refugee family
     • Tutoring children

Put faith into action
Works of mercy flow from prayer and remind us that when we care for our brothers and sisters, we care for Christ himself. Whether offered individually, as a family, through a parish or with a community organization, each act of mercy is a witness of faith, compassion and love.
