Pastors asked to share introductory letter about pastoral planning from Bishop Persico
Bishop Persico is preparing a pastoral letter to the clergy, women and men religious and lay faithful of the diocese. Pastors are asked to share an introductory letter with their parishioners either from the pulpit or in their bulletins as soon as convenient. Those who prefer to offer a link to the letter may also choose to include the following announcement in their bulletins:

Bishop Lawrence Persico has written an introductory letter to the clergy, women and men religious and lay faithful in order to inform them about the ongoing pastoral planning efforts in the Diocese of Erie. The letter will be followed by a series of letters designed to help people understand the situation more fully. Among the statistics included is the fact that Mass attendance in the diocese has declined by 78 percent since 1990. “We must think of ourselves as a diocese, mindful of the needs of all of our sisters and brothers, as we lay out a sustainable plan for the future,” the bishop writes. “What needs to happen in order to care for all of the people in our diocese?” The full letter can be found at www.eriercd.org/planning.html.

2023 Good Shepherd Collection
Please find attached Bishop Persico’s letter introducing the 2023 Good Shepherd Collection, to be taken the weekend of April 29-30. Parishes are asked to publicize this collection in a significant way on the weekend of April 22-23.
