Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month
We invite you to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month, September 15 through October 15, as we recognize the rich faith, culture and traditions of Hispanic Catholics and the many gifts they bring to the life of the Church. This year’s celebration is especially meaningful as the Diocese of Erie marks 55 years of Misión de Amistad — Mission of Friendship, our longstanding relationship with the Archdiocese of Yucatán, Mexico, united through faith, friendship and service. Faithful Servants — Celebrating Our Jubilarians
Beginning after Labor Day, the Diocese of Erie Communications & Advancement Department will highlight our Faithful Servants on social media, celebrating the priests, deacons and women religious marking significant anniversaries of ministry and religious life. We invite parishes, schools and communities throughout the diocese to join us in recognizing these remarkable men and women and giving thanks for their many years of faithful service to the Church. Blue Mass to honor first responders
Bishop Lawrence T. Persico will celebrate a Blue Mass on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 6 p.m. at St. Boniface Parish, 9367 Wattsburg Road, Erie. The special Mass will honor law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical personnel and other first responders, offering prayers of gratitude for their service and for the safety of all who serve our communities. All first responders, their families and members of the community are encouraged to attend. See attached flyer for more information.
25th Anniversary of September 11th
As we approach the twenty-fifth anniversary of the September 11 attacks, we remember all who lost their lives and pray for peace in a world still affected by conflict and violence. Attached is a complimentary liturgy preparation resource from the Federation of Diocesan Liturgical Commissions (FDLC), featuring options for Mass texts, a complete prayer service, suggested readings and music, sample intercessions and prayers for parish use and remembrance.
Beatification of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen resources
Previously, we shared resources developed by the Diocese of Peoria in preparation for the Beatification of Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen. The Diocese of Erie has now created its own materials and toolkit to help our parishes, faith formation leaders and schools participate in this historic occasion. The toolkit includes bulletin and pulpit announcements, prayers and novena materials, social media resources, lesson plans, activities for children and families and additional resources highlighting the life, faith and legacy of Archbishop Sheen. #iGiveCatholic 2026 Registration Now Open
The Catholic Foundation is facilitating the annual #iGiveCatholic giving day campaign for the Catholic community of the Diocese of Erie on Dec. 1. Eligible parishes, schools and ministries should have received a registration email from Elizabeth Rathburn. The registration deadline is Nov 1. St. Severin Parish Rededication Mass
St. Severin Parish, 6786 Kylertown-Drifting Hwy, Drifting, is hosting a homecoming of St. Severin’s parishioners. The “Old Log Church” is celebrating its 175-year anniversary with a Rededication Mass on Saturday, Sept. 5 at 1 p.m. with a potluck dinner to follow in the social hall. Live music by Don “Turk” Schnars and dancing after dinner.
St. George Parish Family Adoration
St. George Parish, 5145 Peach St., Erie, is hosting a family Adoration on Thursday, Sept. 17, from 6-7 p.m. Children are invited to the altar for prayers. Led by Father Luke Daghir, this is an Adoration for everyone, please bring your children. See attached flyer for more information.
Life Teen Diocesan Tour
Pastors, Faith Formation Leaders and Catechists are invited to meet representatives from Life Teen who support Edge and Purpose catechists nationwide to engage in a thoughtful conversation about forming youth. Hear from Edge and Purpose veterans about Confirmation preparation and receive resources for the 2026-2027 Confirmation year. The registration deadline is Sept. 3. St. Francis School Spaghetti dinner and Open House
St. Francis Elementary School, 230 Second St., Clearfield, is hosting a Spaghetti Dinner and Open House on Wednesday, Sept. 16 from 4-7 p.m. or until sold out. The dinner will be served in the school cafeteria and includes spaghetti, meatballs, salad, garlic bread and dessert. Tickets are $10 per adult, $5 per child and are available at the door, online or in advance at the school or rectory offices. See attached flyer for more information.
CCCAS Sips & Sings Karaoke fundraiser
Catholic Charities Counseling and Adoption Services is hosting a Sips & Sings Karaoke fundraiser. This event will be held on Friday, Oct. 2 from 5- 7:30 p.m. at Mazza Winery, 11815 E. Patriot Day Festival and Sermon on the Mount Speaker events
Christ the King Parish, 100 Brisbin St., Houtzdale, will host its Patriot Day Festival on Sunday, Sept. 13, from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The festival will feature a kids’ area, raffle baskets, a $10,000 cash prize raffle, 50/50 drawing, beer booth, cake walk and live performances by The Moore Brothers. Food will be available for purchase, including $12 halupki or roast beef dinners, pierogies, hamburgers, hot dogs and more. Paulie’s & Co. Ice Cream Truck will also be on site, and Perky Pup Coffee Truck joins the festival for the first time this year.
The following evening, Monday, Sept. 14, at 6 p.m., Christ the King will welcome television actor Frank Runyeon for Sermon on the Mount and Hollywood Versus Faith. Runyeon brings Scripture to life through a combination of storytelling, humor and reflection. In Sermon on the Mount, Matthew proclaims the Beatitudes to his house-church in Antioch, introducing audiences to a memorable cast of characters while offering new insights into Jesus’ teachings. Runyeon will then draw from his own experiences in the entertainment industry during Hollywood Versus Faith, exploring faith and the influence of modern media and culture. St. Tobias Spaghetti Dinner
St. Tobias Parish, 1135 Hewitt St., Brockway, is hosting a spaghetti dinner on Sunday, Sept. 13, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The cost is $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12. Dinners include spaghetti, meatballs, salad, bread, a drink and dessert. Meatballs and sauce may also be purchased, please bring your own container.
The Chosen viewing party
St. Francis Xavier Parish, 8880 Main St., McKean, will host a special early-access screening of The Chosen: Season 6, Episode 1 on the Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows, Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to all, with donations appreciated to help cover the cost of pizza and popcorn. This special screening is made possible by Come and See. Those planning to attend are asked to RSVP through the parish website, stfrancisxaviermckean.org, or by calling Irene at 814-476-7657, ext. 7. Annual Family Campout Weekend
The annual Family Campout, hosted by the Office of Faith Formation, will offer a weekend of faith, fun and fellowship, Sept. 18-20, at Msgr. Toland Park, 54704 Alter Rd., Conneaut Lake. This free event is open to all families. Participants should bring their own camping gear and come ready to enjoy time together in the great outdoors. Sunday Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady, Queen of the Americas Parish, 155 S. 9th St., Conneaut Lake, followed by a potluck lunch back at the park. Space is limited. St. Nicholas pig roast
St. Nicholas Parish, 3028 Shannondale Rd., Mayport, will host its annual Pig Roast on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the St. Nicholas Social Hall. Tickets are $20 per person and include a meal, drinks and chances to win two $500 and five $100 cash prizes. The evening will also feature games, a 50/50 drawing and basket raffles. Shrines of Italy pilgrimage
Father Andrew Boyd, Pastor of Immaculate Heart of Mary, Mercer, is leading a Shrines of Italy pilgrimage on Oct. 11-27, 2027.
