Clergy Appreciation Month 2026 Parish Resources

The Diocese of Erie Office of Communications and Advancement has created the following resources to help parishes observe and promote Clergy Appreciation Month throughout October 2026.

This year’s materials emphasize “We Thank. We Pray.”, inviting the faithful to express gratitude for our priests, deacons and bishop through prayer, personal messages and acts of kindness.

Prayer Throughout October
Parishes are encouraged to download the prayer card and include it in their bulletin or distribute printed copies, inviting parishioners to pray for clergy throughout the month. Families can pray together in the morning, before meals or before bed. The prayer can also be included in parish ministry meetings and faith formation classes.

Parish and Family Activities
Use the activity sheets to encourage participation among parishioners of all ages. These sheets can also be printed and distributed as bulletin inserts. Suggested activities include handwritten thank-you notes, spiritual bouquets, children’s drawings and parish service. Remember retired priests and deacons, as well as clergy who have accompanied families through important moments in their lives.

Bishop Persico’s Episcopal Anniversary — October 1
Oct. 1 marks the anniversary of Bishop Lawrence T. Persico’s ordination as a bishop. Throughout the month, parishes, schools and families are invited to recognize his ministry through prayer and messages of gratitude. The Bishop Persico activity sheet also offers families an opportunity to help children learn more about the role of a bishop. Those wishing to honor Bishop Persico’s service may also support the Episcopal Transition Fund in his honor as the diocese awaits its next bishop.
