Hispanic Heritage Month
September 15 – October 15, 2026

Each year, Hispanic Heritage Month offers an opportunity to celebrate the rich cultures, traditions and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities throughout the United States and within the Catholic Church. Throughout the Diocese of Erie, Hispanic Catholics enrich the life of the Church through vibrant expressions of faith, devotion, family life, service and community. This month is an opportunity to recognize those contributions, learn more about the diverse cultures represented in our communities and celebrate the faith that unites us in Christ.

Mission of Friendship

Hispanic Heritage Month also provides an opportunity to celebrate the Diocese of Erie’s longstanding relationship with the Church in Mexico through the Mission of Friendship. For more than five decades, this relationship has brought Catholics from the Diocese of Erie and the Archdiocese of Yucatán together in faith, friendship and service. The Mission of Friendship is a reminder that our Catholic faith reaches beyond borders, languages and cultures, uniting us as brothers and sisters in Christ.

Suggested Parish Activities

Parishes and schools may consider highlighting Hispanic saints and blesseds, incorporating appropriate Hispanic hymns or devotions, sharing stories from Hispanic parishioners and families, offering prayers in Spanish and English or providing opportunities to learn about Hispanic Catholic traditions. Communities can also use the month to highlight the Diocese of Erie’s Mission of Friendship and other connections with the Hispanic Catholic community.
