The deadline for submissions is Thursday, January 26, at 4:30 p.m.

The Diocese of Erie Information Bulletin advertises and promotes activities and events sponsored by diocesan entities such as parishes, schools, religious communities and groups. The IB is unable to advertise or promote activities or events not sponsored by such entities. Submissions may run a maximum of two editions. The administrative offices of the diocese reserve the right to edit submissions.

A reminder concerning the sale of olive wood craft items in parishes and schools
Since January 1, 2020, the Diocese of Erie has not accepted vendors of craft goods from the Holy Land. Thus, Catholic institutions in the Diocese of Erie are not to permit the sale of olive wood items and other craft goods from the Holy Land on their premises from any vendor. Please contact Sr. Kathleen at the chancery at kdietz@eriercd.org or 814.824.1130 with any questions or concerns.

2023 Confirmation information
The attached document includes new details on preparing confirmation liturgies in the Diocese of Erie, along with the schedule. Contact the Office of Worship at 814.824.1271 with any questions. If any changes are made to the schedule during the year, the confirmation schedule on the Office for Divine Worship web page will be updated. Catholic Foundation of Northwest Pennsylvania awards $77,991 in fall 2022 education grants and announces 2023 grant cycles
The Catholic Foundation of Northwest Pennsylvania is pleased to announce that twelve education grants totaling $77,991 were awarded through its 2022 fall competitive grant program. Education grants awarded this past fall covered a wide range of projects and new initiatives in Catholic schools and parishes. Erie Catholic School System open house events
The Erie Catholic School System will host open house events on Jan. 22 and Jan. 29 from 1 to 3 p.m. for prospective families interested in learning more about Erie Catholic schools and enrolling for the 2023-24 school year. Visitors can attend Our Lady of Peace School, 2401 West 38th St., Erie; St. James School, 2602 Buffalo Rd., Erie; and St. Jude School, 606 Lowell Ave, Erie, on Jan. 22, and Blessed Sacrament School, 2510 Greengarden Blvd, Erie; St. George School, 1612 Bryant St., Erie; and St. Luke School, 425 East 38th St., Erie, on Jan. 29. Pre-registration is required at www.eriecatholic.org. Erie Catholic is open to students in preschool through eighth grade.

Make a candle for Candlemas
St. Francis Xavier Parish in McKean invites you to make a candle for Candlemas on Feb. 1 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Wicks & Wax Studio, 8470 Edinboro Rd., Store #3, McKean. Price starts at $25. Chosen Two
The communities of St. Boniface, St. John/Holy Rosary, and Our Lady of Mount Carmel parishes will offer the series Chosen Two. The series will begin on Feb. 2 and continue each Thursday through March 23 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 1553 East Grandview Blvd., Erie. Come will meet Jesus in a new way through the eyes of the people who walked on earth with him. The series brings the story of Jesus to life. It shows the people he cared about, the problems he faced, and the message he came to earth to give all in a new and compelling way. A Midsummer Night’s Dream
Cathedral Prep in Erie is hosting William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream on Feb 2-4 at 7 p.m. and on Feb 5 at 2 p.m. at the H. David Bowes Auditorium, 250 West 10th St., Erie. Admission is $10 for adults, $7 for seniors and $5 for students. See flier for details.

Souper Chili Saturday
Holy Rosary and St. John the Baptist parishes in Erie are hosting a chili and soup cookoff on Feb. 4 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the new Mercy Center for Women Anchor Community Center, 1012 East 28 St., Erie. Taste some of the best chili and soups in town. Vote for your favorite. The cost is just $8 for adults, $5 for children ages five to 15 and under five is free, with a family rate of $25 for families of four or more. St. Patrick Lenten Series
St. Patrick Parish in Erie is hosting a Lenten series that will connect the dots of the Old Testament and show how God’s plan of salvation was worked out and revealed over thousands of years from Abraham to Jesus. The series will take place on every Wednesday in Lent – March 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 from 10 to 11:15 a.m. and from 6 to 7:15 p.m. at St. Patrick Church, 130 East 4th St., Erie. See flier for details.

Knights of Columbus institute diocesan-wide prayer list; parishes invited to share the list
The Knights of Columbus are now collecting the names of people in need of prayer at councils throughout the Diocese of Erie. If you have any person in need of special prayers and grace, please contact a member of your parish Knights of Columbus Council. Council members request just names, no details of the specific intention. Parishes are invited to publish or post the list which will be shared in the Information Bulletin twice a month.  All are invited to remember those on the Knights’ Prayer Hotline list in their prayers.
