The Diocese of Erie Information Bulletin advertises and promotes activities and events sponsored by diocesan entities such as parishes, schools, religious communities and groups. The IB is unable to advertise or promote activities or events not sponsored by such entities. Submissions may run a maximum of two editions. The administrative offices of the diocese reserve the right to edit submissions.

Young men are invited to Quo Vadis Days
Quo Vadis Days is a four-day camp for Catholic young men in grades 9-12 who are striving to follow God’s call in their lives, who are considering the priesthood or seminary formation, or who are wondering if God is calling them to a religious vocation. Register now for Quo Vadis Days this July 24-27 at St. Mark Seminary in Erie. Attached is a document that includes the registration form and a flier for further details. Novena to Good St. Ann
All are invited to attend the 103rd annual novena in honor of Good St. Ann at St. Ann Church, 921 East Ave., Erie, July 18-26. Redemptorist Father Phil Dabney will be the guest preacher, confessor and celebrant. He is a priest-in-residence at the Holy Redeemer Baltimore Provincial House in Washington, D.C. Daily Masses will be celebrated Monday through Friday at 8:30 a.m. and 7 p.m.; Saturday Masses are at 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.; and Sunday Masses are at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. The following special celebrations will be held at each Mass on the dates noted:

  • Blessing of religious articles, July 20
  • Anointing of the Sick, July 22
  • Blessing of children, July 23 and July 24
  • Blessing of parents and grandparents, July 26 (Feast of St. Ann).

Catholic Foundation Social Ministry Grant opportunity
The Catholic Foundation of Northwest Pennsylvania is now accepting applications for its Catholic Social Ministry Grant. Those eligible to apply for these grants are affiliate agencies of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Erie, Inc., departments of the Diocese of Erie and parishes working in collaboration with diocesan offices in support of family ministries, justice and peace, respect life, parish social ministry, ministry with persons with disabilities, and natural family planning. Celebrate Christmas in July
St. Benedict Christmas in July cash bingo will be held July 17 at the Polish Falcons Club, 431 E. 3rd St., Erie. Doors open at noon; games begin at 1 p.m. Donations of toys or clothes (ages 2-7) and cash earn a free packet of nine playing cards. There will be early bird bingo, a 50/50, a $100 lottery wreath, door prizes and more. This event benefits the ministries of the St. Benedict Alumnae Association in Erie.

Vacation Bible School: All aboard!
Our Lady of Mercy Parish, 837 Bartlett Road, Harborcreek, is holding a Vacation Bible School July 25-29 from 9 a.m. to noon each day. The program is free and open to children ages 4 through grade 6. Children do NOT need to be a member of the parish to attend. Registration is mandatory to ensure there are ample supplies. A registration form is attached for convenience, or can be found on the bulletin tables inside the church, on the parish website at www.ourladyofmercychurch.org or requested by email at info@ourladyofmercychurch.org. Frenchtown dinner, festival scheduled this month
The 126th annual Frenchtown ham/chicken dinner will be held July 31 at St. Hippolyte Church, located on Route 27 just seven miles east of Meadville. Dinner will be served from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. (or until sold out). The menu includes half of a barbecued chicken or a generous portion of ham, plus mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, coleslaw, applesauce, rolls and butter, beverage and pie. Cost of the dinner is $14 for adults, $13 for senior citizens, $8 for children 6-12, and free to those 5 and younger. An outdoor eating area and take-out meals will be available. There will be festival games, a gift auction, quilt/afghan raffle, 50/50 raffles, a country store and a grand prize drawing of $2,000. Proceeds from the dinner and festival benefit St. Hippolyte Parish and Our Lady of Lourdes Church.

Save the date for St. Michael’s Labor Day picnic
St. Michael Parish in Fryburg will hold its annual Labor Day picnic on Sept. 5. Chicken and ham dinners with homemade noodle soup will be offered, along with a 100-item gift auction in the second-floor church social hall. There will be a quilt raffle, games of chance and skill, raffles and cash prizes. Dinners are $12 each for adults and $6 for children. Raffle tickets will be available for purchase through the parish office, various local businesses and online. Tickets also will be available on the grounds the day of the event. All proceeds benefit the upkeep and maintenance of the parish’s stone church built in 1886. For more information, contact the parish office at 814-226-7288 or email stmikelabordaypicnic@gmail.com.


Position opening for regional parish business manager
The parishes of Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Sykesville; St. Bernard, Falls Creek; St. Catherine of Siena, DuBois; St. Mary, Reynoldsville; and St. Michael the Archangel, DuBois, are hiring a regional business manager who will oversee the business operations of the five parishes.  Interested candidates should demonstrate a background in accounting, human resources, personnel management, building and grounds supervision, and an understanding of diocesan polices and regulations.
