Diocese of Erie announces clergy assignments
Bishop Lawrence Persico has made the following clergy appointments:
APPOINTED Reverend Scott P. Detisch, Pastor of Holy Cross Parish, Fairview, while continuing as Pastor of St. John the Evangelist Parish, Girard, with residence at the Holy Cross Parish rectory, effective August 1, 2026, until July 31, 2032. He will continue as adjunct professor at St. Mary Seminary, Wickliffe, Ohio.
APPOINTMENT CONCLUDED Reverend Thomas L. Tyler (retired) concludes his service as Parochial Administrator, pro tempore, of Holy Cross Parish, Fairview, effective August 1, 2026. The decree is attached.
FEMA has announced $300 million in security grants for houses of worship through the Nonprofit Security Grant Program (NSGP).
This program provides funding to nonprofit organizations, including churches and potentially religious schools, that are at higher risk of terrorist attack. Funds may be used for physical security enhancements such as cameras, access controls, training and other safety measures. Parishes are encouraged to explore this opportunity and consider applying if it may benefit their security needs.

The Diocese of Erie has eliminated the 1-800 phone number. Please direct all calls to 814-824-1111. The previous 1-800 number is no longer in service. Direct phone lines to offices are still in use.

Benedictine Open House
The Benedictine Sisters of Erie will continue their 170th anniversary celebration with an Open House at the monastery, 6101 East Lake Rd., Harborcreek, on July 11 from 2 to 5 p.m. Held on the Feast of St. Benedict, the Open House invites visitors to tour the monastery chapel, library, Brother Thomas' pottery collection and the Chapter 57 gift shop. Guests are also invited to enjoy refreshments in the monastery dining room and spend time visiting with the sisters and oblates.
Millions of Monicas
St. James Parish at the St. Mark Campus, 695 Smithson Ave., Erie, is hosting “Millions of Monicas,” a prayer movement for mothers whose children have drifted from the Catholic faith. Inspired by Saint Monica and the counsel to “tell God about your child,” women gather to pray in a simple yet powerful way. Vacation Bible School at Our Lady of Mercy
Step right up for The Greatest Show on Earth Vacation Bible School at Our Lady of Mercy, 837 Bartlett Rd., Harborcreek, July 27 through 31. Children ages 4 through those entering sixth grade are invited to enjoy a fun-filled week of faith, friendship and adventure. Vacation Bible School is free to attend. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
Come discover a hands-on, immersive way for children ages 3 to 6 to encounter God. On Tuesday, Aug. 11 from 6 to 7 p.m. at the St. Mark Catholic Center cafeteria, 429 E. Grandview Blvd., Erie, families are invited to learn about Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, a Montessori-based religious formation program rooted in Sacred Scripture and the liturgy of the Church that invites children into a relationship with Christ the Good Shepherd. “Good Grief” The Gift of Grief seminar
Susan Schorsten, HM, will present The Gift of Grief Aug. 2 through 5 at the Villa Maria Retreat Center, 2067 Evergreen Rd., Villa Maria. During this retreat, Susan will explore what "good grief" is and how grief can be received as a gift that invites healing and growth. Participants will reflect on what grief is, why and how people grieve and the importance of both personal and communal grieving. The cost is $260 and includes the program, lodging and meals from a light supper on Sunday through lunch on Wednesday. See the attached flyer for additional information and registration details.
St. Boniface Quilters fabric sale
The St. Boniface Quilters of St. Boniface Parish, Wattsburg, is holding a fabric sale at the Greene Township Building, 9333 Tate Rd., Wattsburg, on Sat., July 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Fabric, sewing machines, kits, notions, patterns, yarn, miscellaneous items will be available. 107th annual St. Ann Novena
