Microsoft to discontinue support for Windows 8 operating system
If you are still on Windows 8 or 8.1, Microsoft is cutting its support for this version on Jan. 10, 2023. You must either upgrade your computer operating system or replace your PC before this date. If you continue using your Windows 8 machine after Jan. 10, 2023, you run the risk of exposing your parishioners’ private information to hackers. Identity theft is a prevalent crime. Once hacked, even computers on the same network that don’t contain parishioner information can become a threat to information on your PC. Upgrading or replacing computers running out-of-date applications like Windows 7 and Windows 8 is important. Microsoft also is retiring Office 2013 on April 11, 2023. Using old versions of Microsoft Office can also be a threat because Microsoft stops issuing security upgrades for retired applications. You can purchase Office through the Diocese of Erie. Inquiries may be directed to Kathy Papalia at it@eriercd.org or 814-824-1184.

World Mission Sunday
Attached please find a letter from Bishop Lawrence Persico concerning the collection for missions to be taken up on World Mission Sunday on Oct. 23. Pastors are asked to promote this collection in a significant way the weekend of Oct. 15-16.

The Mission Office of the Diocese of Erie reminds parishes that are participating in the World Mission Sunday and Mission Rosary initiatives to place rosaries in a noticeable place in their churches in October. If you receive a call from anyone at Prison Fellowship Ministries, ask them to contact Sister Kathleen Dietz, FSO, or Deacon Frank Hannah at the Chancery at 814-824-1130.
