The Deacon Council

The Deacon Council statement of purpose: The Deacon Council serves as a post-ordination body to the diocesan bishop in matters pertaining to the life and ministry of our diaconal community. These matters include social concerns, deacon life and ministry, and continuing education. The council assists the bishop in implementing and supervising programs for the local ordained community according to the guidelines established by the United States Council of Catholic Bishops in the “National Directory for the Formation, Ministry, and Life of Permanent Deacons in the United States”.

The Deacon Council along with the bishop also works in collaboration and cooperation with priests, lay ministers, diocesan staff, local councils and lay people in setting policies, action plans and objectives related to diaconal ministry. The council is comprised of deacons and wives either appointed by the Director of the Permanent Deacon program of the Diocese of Erie or elected from the local deacon community and serve the council for a limited term.

Deacon council meetings will be held the second Thursday of every month thru Sept. 14, 2023.
