BISHOP REQUESTS ROSARY RECITATION IN OCTOBER

10/01/2018

The following is a special message from Bishop Lawrence Persico regarding a request by Pope Francis for the month of October:

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ:

October is the month of the Holy Rosary. Many individuals and parishes use this month to pray the rosary every day with a greater devotion to the Blessed Mother.

The Holy Father has decided to invite all the faithful, of all the world, to pray the Holy Rosary every day during the entire Marian month of October, and thus to join in communion and in penitence, as the people of God, in asking the Mother of God and Saint Michael the Archangel to protect the Church from the devil, who always seeks to separate us from God and each other. This is especially important as we face the evil of sexual abuse in the Catholic Church.

Following the request of Pope Francis, I ask all the faithful of the Diocese of Erie that during the month of October the praying of the Holy Rosary conclude with the prayer to Saint Michael the Archangel.

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle, be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil; may God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, cast into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who prowl through the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Sincerely yours in Christ,

The Most Reverend Lawrence T. Persico, JCL Bishop of Erie
