Mass for the Patronal Feast of Saint Mark

Each spring, the Diocese of Erie hosts a cherished gathering that brings together our seminarians, their families, friends and the clergy who accompany them on their path to the priesthood. On Monday, April 28, the Mass for the Patronal Feast of Saint Mark was held in the Saint Mark Seminary Chapel. This annual celebration is a testament to the beauty of the vocation—a noble calling that inspires great hope and joy within our church.
A highlight of the evening is the celebration of the Mass, presided over by Bishop Lawrence Persico. For our seminarians, this is a meaningful opportunity to deepen their connection to the diocesan church and to receive encouragement as they continue discerning God’s call in their lives.
Bishop Persico’s homily offered words of inspiration and encouragement to the seminarians as they continue discerning their call to serve the Catholic Church.
“As we celebrate the Feast of Saint Mark,” said Bishop Persico addressing the seminarians, “it is our hope that you men who are formed here at Saint Mark Seminary are better prepared for your call of discipleship. With the guidance received here you are enabled to move through life better equipped spiritually, humanely and academically for what lies ahead.”
Bishop Persico then congratulated Joseph Preston and Dale Hyland for reaching their next milestone in their formation: major seminary. He also expressed gratitude to the clergy who have supported them on their journey.
The evening was thoughtfully coordinated by Father Scott Jabo, rector and vocation director of St. Mark Seminary, along with Father David Renne, STD, vice-rector. It offers a beautiful blend of reverence and community.
Following Mass, guests were invited to a gracious dinner embracing the spirit of fraternity. It was an uplifting evening that affirmed our seminarians and reminded us of the vital role they will one day play in the life of the Catholic Church.
