The #iGiveCatholic advance giving phase is off to a strong start! Donations can be made online through Nov. 29 at www.erie.igivecatholic.org or directly to a parish, school or ministry by cash or check. Organizations may consider sending an email to supporters, posting a flier at building entrances, posting a link to their organization on Facebook, or inserting a notice in bulletins or newsletters. Don’t be shy about asking your supporters to donate to #iGiveCatholic. This might be the giving opportunity that speaks to them. Contact Kathy Grisier at 814.824.1236 or kgrisier@cfnwpa.org with questions.

Parishioners and employees: Be cautious about sharing personal information
Parishioners at an Erie parish recently received an email from a scam artist claiming to be their pastor, requesting financial help. Parishes are asked to please include the following notice in your weekly bulletin and forward it to your employees and volunteers to keep everyone safe from fraud. Here is the suggested notice to be published:

In this age when personal data can be misused by scam artists, please be aware that the Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie, its clergy and entities such as parishes and schools, will never solicit your personal or business information by any method unless initiated by you. Should you receive an unsolicited request for such information – including a request for gift cards of any type – exercise extreme caution. Contact the person or entity by using official contact information only. Do not use the contact information provided in the potential fraudulent request.

2023 Official Catholic Directory updates (Kenedy Directory)
The Official Catholic Directory, also known as the Kenedy Directory, lists every Catholic entity in the United States. It is used to confirm tax-exempt status for these entities under the USCCB group ruling with the IRS. Parishes, schools and other Catholic organizations must update their entries online each year. The Official Catholic Directory sent an email on Nov. 9 to every organization that has provided an email address. Institutional representatives should log in at https://ocdedits.com/login to complete their updates for the 2022 Official Catholic Directory by Dec. 7. Please contact Maria Caulfield with any questions at 814-824-1130 or mcaulfield@eriercd.org. You may also contact the publishers directly at ocdedits@nrpdirect.com. See the attachment for details.
