The Diocese of Erie Information Bulletin advertises and promotes activities and events sponsored by diocesan entities such as parishes, schools, religious communities and groups. The IB is unable to advertise or promote activities or events not sponsored by such entities. Submissions may run a maximum of two editions. The administrative offices of the diocese reserve the right to edit submissions.

Attention, pastors! October Count is approaching
The October Count starts Oct. 1, 2022. Pastors and administrators in the Diocese of Erie are asked to visit https://www.eriercd.org/October-Count.html to download the form and instructions for submitting October Count figures electronically. The deadline for submitting figures is Nov. 5, 2022. Contact Kathy Papalia at 814-824-1184 with any questions.

Erie County Bar Association invites legal professionals to Red Mass
Bishop Lawrence Persico will celebrate a Red Mass, offered for all those involved with the legal profession, on Oct. 3 at 5:15 p.m. The Mass will be held at the Mary, Seat of Wisdom Chapel on the campus of Gannon University, 513 Peach St., Erie. Organized by the Erie County Bar Association, the Mass will be followed by a dinner in Gannon’s Yehl Ballroom featuring Father Michael Kesicki, vice president of Gannon’s mission and ministry, as speaker. Diocesan Respect Life Sunday Mass with Bishop Persico
Bishop Lawrence Persico will celebrate a Mass for Respect Life Sunday on Oct. 2 at 11:30 a.m. at The Epiphany of the Lord Parish, 353 Pine St., Meadville. A reception immediately follows Mass. Prolife groups are encouraged to RSVP and attend together. Groups can RSVP by visiting the Social Justice and Life webpage at www.ErieRCD.org/socialjusticelife or by calling 814-824-1250. Catholic Foundation investors meeting
The board of directors of the Catholic Foundation is hosting the annual meeting of investors on Sept. 27 at 9 a.m. at the Manufacturer & Business Association in Erie. This hybrid in-person and virtual meeting is designed for administrators of agencies that hold endowments with the Catholic Foundation, their finance councils, finance staff, board members and others with interest in endowment-building. Erie Diocesan Rosary March planned for Oct. 9
The 28th annual Erie Diocesan Rosary March will be held Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. in the parking lot of St. Jude the Apostle Church, 2801 W. 6th St., Erie. The rosary also will be prayed inside the church at the same time for those who are unable to march. Following the rosary, there will be a special prayer service inside the church with exposition and Benediction. Father David Renne, vice rector of St. Mark Seminary, Erie, and a member of the faculty of Gannon University, Erie, will be the guest homilist. Missionary Cooperative Program reminder
Pastors and administrators in the Diocese of Erie are reminded to submit the collection of the Missionary Cooperative Plan 2022 directly to the International Mission Office. (Note: Do not give the collection to the missionary.) Attached is the check remittance form. Missionary visits are to be completed before Oct. 1, 2022. Deadline approaching for Catholic Foundation Education Grant opportunity
Catholic parishes and schools are invited to apply for an Education Grant from the Catholic Foundation of Northwest Pennsylvania. Already this year, funding has been granted to support a wide variety of faith formation and technology projects and programs throughout northwest Pennsylvania. Don’t miss this opportunity! Diocesan middle school retreats scheduled this fall
Registration is now open for diocesan middle school NET retreats scheduled this fall. Sponsored by the Office of Faith Formation and the Catholic Schools Office, middle school NET retreats for sixth- through eighth-graders will be hosted on the following dates/sites:

  • Oct. 22 — Venango Catholic High School, 1505 W. First St., Oil City.
  • Oct. 29 — Our Lady of Peace School/Our Lady of Peace Parish, 2401 W. 38th St., Erie.
  • Nov. 5 — St. Boniface Parish, 355 Main St., Kersey.

Diocese offers informational meetings on confirmation and faith formation
What’s happening with confirmation and the faith formation programs in grades 6-12? The Office of Faith Formation invites you to find out! All parents of middle school and high school students are invited to attend a one-hour discussion about the changes. Meetings are Sept. 20 at St. Jude the Apostle Parish, 2801 W. 6th St., Erie; Sept. 26 at St. Agatha Parish, 353 Pine St., Meadville; and Sept. 28 at St. Mark Parish, 235 E. Fourth St., Emporium. Our Lady of Mercy dance to feature The Groove
The Our Lady of Mercy Knights of Columbus is sponsoring a dance featuring the popular Erie band The Groove on Sept. 16 from 7 to 11 p.m. in the parish gymnasium, 837 Bartlett Road, Harborcreek. Tickets are on sale in the parish office Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and at the door the night of the dance. The cost is $15 per person. Capacity is limited.

St. Jude Parish to serve pancake breakfast
St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Erie is hosting a pancake breakfast at its parish center, located at 606 Lowell Ave., Erie, on Sept. 25 from 8 a.m. to noon. This is an all-you-can-eat breakfast sponsored by the Knights of Columbus.

Betsy Annunziata to prepare parish spaghetti dinner
Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Erie invites everyone to its popular spaghetti dinner on Oct. 9 from noon to 5 p.m. at Scheffner Hall on the parish grounds at 1531 East Grandview Blvd., Erie. Betsy Annunziata of Nunzi's fame will prepare the dinner, which will support the parish. The dinner cost is $12 per person. Dine-in or carry out.  

Bingo to benefit Erie Night to Shine
Our Lady of Peace Parish in Erie is sponsoring a bingo night Oct. 9 at JPT Bingo Hall, 2319 W. 38th St., Erie, to benefit Erie Night to Shine, a prom-style experience for people with special needs. Doors open at 12:30 p.m., with bingo starting at 2 p.m. Tickets are $30 each in advance or $35 at the door. Tickets can be purchased at Our Lady of Peace Church office, 2401 W. 38th St., or Ambridge Rose Salon, 3344 W. 26th St., Erie. BYOB and snacks. There also will be a basket auction and 50/50. Erie Night to Shine is sponsored by the parish.

Volunteer opportunities are available through St. Martin Center in Erie. Volunteers are needed in the food pantry, the Christmas gift program and for Thanksgiving dinner baskets.
