A Time of Prayerful Anticipation and Unity

As the Diocese of Erie enters a time of episcopal transition, we do so with faith, gratitude and hope. Following the Holy Father’s acceptance of a bishop’s resignation, the Church begins a period of prayerful anticipation as a successor is discerned and appointed. While this moment brings change, it is also a reminder of the enduring mission of the Church – rooted not in any one individual, but in Jesus Christ, who continues to guide and sustain his people.

During this time, the day-to-day life of the diocese continues under the leadership of The Most Rev. Lawrence T. Persico, ensuring stability in our parishes, schools and ministries. Together, we remain united in worship, service and our shared commitment to live and proclaim the Gospel across our 13 counties.

We invite the faithful to join in prayer for all those involved in this process – for our Holy Father, for those discerning the next bishop of Erie and for our diocesan family. In the spirit of unity reflected in the Church’s tradition and in the words In illo Uno unum—in the One, we are one—we move forward together, trusting in God’s providence and preparing to welcome the shepherd he will send.
